Question of the Day?

Ok I risked it, and my intuition proved correct.
Probably a colloquial name due to it's history🙄 but NOT the official Trinity House name.

THINKS! Do I risk my 90% score on what appears to be the only half logical correct 'wrong-en'?

Question of the Day?

The correct answer is the Longstone Lighthouse. This is where Grace Darling lived with her father who was the lighthouse keeper.😉

Question of the Day?

My last thought reminded me of a photo from Oz of a sign I saw in an old Model Maker magazine. It said.

"It is an Offence the throw stones at this notice".
I guess a lot of Australians have a sense of humour too!

Question of the Day?

Hi I agree bad manners, but I have only seen this behaviour in Sydney Harbour and they were all young people possibly out of their depth in more ways than one.
I have sailed along the UK south coast and all was sweetness and light.

On the canals around Birmingham and before the whole lot was cleaned up, going under a bridge could be a problem.
After experiencing small boys dropping stones on the boat. My brother and I decided to go ahead and see what was waiting for us and we sometimes had to chase the little s**s off.
But since those days the very large canal basin, I think more canals than Venice, has been made a feature of Birmingham and probably it does not happen now.

Neglected areas enable more trouble to appear. Some years ago councils made sure any damaged notices would be repaired straight away. Which apparently has the desired effect. An area allowed to run down costs more in the end than one that is maintained.

Being polite is a nice gift but it is not given to every body. I must say I have been sailing for over 25 years and never had this sort of inpoliteness. Maybe i was too good looking😂😂😂😂😂😂

Question of the Day?

Hi Colin I agree with the care and atttention aspect and then there is the incompetent lack of ability

However there is rage when some people just loose their temper for whatever reason. Also bad behavour.

In Sydney Harbour, probably 10 years ago, we were anchored up (yacht). We were there to see some event and a 30 odd foot motor boat found a not very large space to anchor in.

The boat stopped and then was slowly drifting down on us. The 3 people on board apparently could not lower the anchor and all attention was there.
My son went forward and picked up a boat hook to fender them off with, just in case. The boat got closer and my son called out to them to let them know. The mouthful of abuse that came back was unbelievable, even to my innocent ears!
He asked, I thought quite nicely, if there was a competent person on board, he could speak to!

At the last minute they gave up and started the engine and went.

On another occasion we were anchored there with no other boats around. After an hour or so a motor boat appeared and circled us, I suspect he thought this was his spot!

We did not move but waved a greeting which was ignored and a few minutes later he decided to go round and round our yacht continuously until the rocking motion of our yacht was too difficult to accept.

We were forced to up anchor and move. There are some pig boaters over there!
So one case of rage and another of intentional harm.

I have seen occasions like this but 30 years ago now when we used to hire canal boats especially in the midlands! Only 1% but they stick out from the general friendliness seen elseware.

Question of the Day?

All of the above???
But the legal terms used according to Aberaeron harbour master ,
Reckless endangerment,
Dangerous use of watercraft likely to cause injury or death.
Plus a lot of minor offences such as causing a nuisance by inconsiderate use, failing to abide to local rules regarding protected areas.
And many more.
Cheers Colin.

Question of the Day?

I got it wrong! Hurrah! hurrah! I avoided 'boat rage' thinking it was a trap and went for 'boat madness'. Wrong! What would it be called if it was a cruise ship or a Panamax cargo vessel? Merchant Marine madness?

Question of the Day?

Look out for a QotD about Columbus' shipwreck Folks😉
😎
"MIAMI (Reuters) - A shipwreck found off the north coast of Haiti could be the 500-year-old remains of the Santa Maria, which led Christopher Columbus’ famed voyage to the New World, according to a team of marine explorers." Led by Massachusetts marine investigator Barry Clifford.

"His team first discovered the wreck off Haiti in 2003, but it was unable to identify the ship. Yet the discovery of Columbus’ encampment on nearby Haiti and data from the explorer’s diary prove the heavily decayed vessel on the sea floor was the Santa Maria, he now believes."

Clearly two were not the answer. Seems strange to be given the answer thought it might be a trick question. In the end decided HMS Royal George had to be the only answer.

Question of the Day?

I can cope with confusing questions when the answer is given. Often like a lot of quizzes, the answer is often more carefully buried in the question. Nothing like openness though.
