Re 'Fun at the boat ramp'😁🙊🙈
When first published, some years ago, Pete from Hungary demanded to know how I got hold of a photo of his girl friend😮 (My spies are EVERYWHERE😉)
How his Hungarian wife responded has regrettably not been recorded for posterity.
But I'm relieved to see that Pete still posts now and again.
And competes in the quizzes👍
Isn't that a great exhaust?

I remember once Googling 'Model boat plans' and amongst a few definitions of 'boat' and even fewer sources of plans (for all sorts of buildings and gizmos) were many more intriguing offers from, shall we say, 'Models of the night'!😮

Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug
Hi Bob, probably just the Schock name,- seemed like a coincidence them both being boat builders/designers etc. Edson Schock designed a lot of classic boats for the Mystic Seaport after his retirement, (around the same time as the Schock co in Cal started)- came from a line of naval architects going back to early Americas Cup days.
Nice boat by the way.👍

jbkiwi: Probably not, my boat was built by Schock W.D. Associations in California sometime between 1969 and 1976 and was designed by a guy named Seymour Paul. Bob

Hi hey-you, would you know if the glass W D Schock boats are in any way related to the old Edson I Schock designs ?. I have a New Zealand built 15 ft 'Sharron Potts' design (from Edson I Schock plans 1952- 'How to build small boats'), and while doing a bit of research, spotted the W D Schock company ( started So Cal 1958) and wondered if there was a connection (maybe his son?) Edson Schock was from Rhode Island.

Seems BMW drivers leave their brains at home, having towed 3 in 2019 that decided to retrieve their boats on slick green slipway but couldn't understand why the engine stopped working in sea water.
The slipway in question has notices saying not to go beyond a marker board, and there is a free to use winch for launching and recovery purposes, which BMW drivers tend to ignore.
It's great entertainment for the waterfront caravan holiday makers on this site.
Cheers Colin.

Just after I did the waves vid, this guy was trying to haul his boat out by putting his trailer way out in the water. With the help of a guy who pitched in (on the front of the trailer) he managed to get it on the trailer after about 1/2 an hour along with a boatload of water over the stern. He then proceeded to try and tow the boat (complete with half the ocean in it), up the ramp using a flat nylon/poly cord, (approx 40x5mm).
I thought "this ain't going to end well", and started taking a video. He got most of the way up the ramp (out of sight in the pic) and I thought he had made it, and stopped filming, but about 5 secs later the inevitable happened. There was a crack, and boat and BMW parted company, and the boat, complete with his wife hanging on like grim death and half the ocean, made a dash all the way down the ramp, pointing at the sky with the trailer screeching all the way.
Luckily the drag from the melting steel on the trailer stopped it,- fortunately on the sandy side of the ramp, not over the drop on the left. One would have thought he might have chocked the wheels and drained it out once it came out of the water, but a lot of people aren't that clever. Me and the guy who was helping grabbed some rocks and chocked the wheels (the owner was trying to pull the front down to relieve the friction braking, and help the boat complete the run back to the ocean) Finally drained it and hooked it to the car, (he had a bit of trouble with the coupling also, (looked like it needed replacement),- will probably come off and kill someone one day.
Always entertaining at boat ramps. Best one I saw was a guy who started a 60hp on 14 ft boat, in gear, facing out, on full throttle. The boat took off between the pontoons, (guy disappeared into the bowels of the boat) ricocheted of a 25 ft trailer sailer, did a 90deg port turn, jumped 2 pontoons (narrowly missing a kid fishing off the end of one, and between a few other people) and headed for a landing barge/ferry.
There was a large group of gang members who had hired the barge for a party, and who were all leaning on the rail. When the boat came straight for them, they all moved back as one, (funny to see in itself) The boat was about 40ft from the barge and gaining speed, when a hand came up from the floor of the boat and grabbed the throttle just in time. The guy would not start it again, and his mates had to get him in their boat and bring his back. Bet he checked his throttle and neutral next time😂 Last pic is that ramp,- orange line shows where he went, quite impressive.👍
