Hello Chris, Yes, it's a first having actually got the glue already! I always seem to find that I never have what I want on the shelf when I need it!
Greg 👍
Hello Chris,
Concerning my own test using Deluxe Materials Canopy Glue and Glue and Glaze, I checked the sample this morning and both had glued the Styrene strip to the PVC sheet successfully. So I now know what to do to finish off the sail.

Hi Greg
I did a test earlier and it's holding Ok. Takes quite a long time to dry fully as you are gluing two impervious materials. As you say needs to be left overnight to dry fully. Advantage of canopy glue of course is that it dries clear.

Hi Greg,
"In the meantime I'm going to have a look at the link ..."
That should keep you off the streets for a little while😉
My tip would be the Loctite product, small package so you don't have buy half a gallon when you only need a few squirts.
Just been on a short shopping trip🤔
While trolling round the supermarket (yaaawn) I was cogitating your little snageroo!
Two points-
1 I'm not a 'yachet' man but I assume that the sails should remain flexible even with those
stiffeners (?) attached. Correct me if I'm miaowing from the wrong tree🐱
I use both Deluxe Materials Canopy Glue and Glue & Glaze (and their Rocket CA as well) and I don't recall CG and G&G drying flexible!
2 Drying time. I don't recall those glues taking so long to dry.
So I'm wondering if your 'heavy weight' is excluding too much air from your test pieces?
Just a couple of thunks
Good luck👍 cheers, Doug😎

Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug
Concerning the glue test using Canopy Glue and Glue and Glaze, after one hour neither of the glues had dried so I am going to leave the test overnight and check tomorrow.
In the meantime I'm going to have a look at the link Doug posted and his suggestions.

Hello Doug,
Thanks for the link. Such a small choice! 🙄
I am running a test on some of Deluxe Materials canopy glue and their Glue and Glaze. I applied a heavy weight on top and have given the adhesive an hour to dry. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi Guys,
You should find something suitable here (Link below).
I rather like the sound of 'Amazing Goop'😁
I see also a Loctite Vinyl, Fabric & Plastic flexible glue. Sounds ideal.
Get stuck in folks👍
Cheers, Doug 😎

Hello Chris,
The instructions describe the white strip as Styrene and the sail material as PVC. I have some canopy glue so I'll try that. I have some off cuts of both materials so I'll have a bit of a test first.

Trouble is with that Greg is that it melts the plastic to weld it and may well deform it, especially the sheet.
I still reckon canopy glue will do the job and it's useful to have. I use it for gluing timber planks down as well as the plastics I mentioned so it won't get wasted.
It looks like styrene and polythene sheet in your photo? I'll try a test a little later and let you know.

Thank you to everyone for their suggestions. What I should have said was what the items were I am about to glue together. I don't know their correct name but they are the two white sail supports shown in the picture of the Footy below. I tried Cyano without success. Could I use plastic kit adhesive? I think I have some somewhere.

I agree that experimentation is the best route, especially if dealing with an unknow material. I think the best adhesion joint is a "weld" between two surfaces. ABS can be "welded" with ABS and styrene (HIPS) using plastic model cement as well as acetone (100% nail polish remover is inexpensive). Polytetrafluoroethylene is very difficult to cement. With an unknown material trial and error will decide.

I might be inclined to experiment on scraps before you do it for real, starting with what you already have. The inflatable lads seem to like Stormsure, but I've heard good things about Vinylweld too. Is it sail battens or similar? In which case, double sided sticky tape might suffice. Does tend to vary a bit, though.

I'd give Canopy Glue a go. I bought some to glue styrene strakes onto hulls coated with Eze-Kote and for gluing clear acetate to styrene window frames which will then be glued onto painted surfaces. I also repaired my wife's kitchen scales by gluing between metal and glass!
For the strakes I did a test, as well as the canopy glue I tried thick cyano which pulled off.
