Fun/funny Boat

When first beginning to enter into the rc boat hobby my grandsons were wanting to see speed not tugboat. Wanting to encourage them to be able to handle a rc boat with supervision, my friend suggested a Jolly Jay. It had a high bow and with the right motor it could move along more than a similar sized tugboat.

I found one prebuilt complete ready to go with all rc included for $200.

The boys have enjoyed it and can now operate it with supervision.

So you ask how does this fit into a Funny Boat discussion? I glued various figures and critters to the deck and the mast. From the sea-sick green passenger hanging over the railing, to the monkey in the rigging. The boys get a kick out of grandpa’s humour!

Well you were talking about rc decoy ducks and sort of segued into rc alligators. I just assumed that you had a reason to lure crocagators.😁

RC alligator head was popular on Amazon last summer, incl spare driveline parts...brushed motors, shafts, stuffing boxes, props...it was steered by differential thrust

I guess an alligator skin boot maker might occasionally find one useful Terry😁

Have you looked into decoy ducks (often used for hunting)? I remember seeing one of those modified for RC. The owner also had some smaller ones trailing behind via a towline.

(Edit: I forgot, my son bought me a gator head which I RC/motorized several years ago.)

Thanks for the link to the woodenboatstore.
I have not stumbled across this one before. I like that they have plans available for their boats besides the kits. Even better for me is that they are located in the USA.

My "funny boat" is my "Bill E. Bonze" - naturally, it's a Springer! (Aren't most funny boats Springers?)

Check out
https://www.woodenboatstore.com/products/midwest-maine-peapod-1-10

You could easily enlarge it to what ever size desired.

The price is good too, half of what I paid for their little dory model which is very delicate. I added a sail to it.

Another kit of theirs is this 28” boat for rowing or sail.

Fun/funny Boat

Here are some fun boats that belong to members of our club.
So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Hi Westwind, I had a ProBoat mallard duck that towed a duckling with a huge triple fish-hook, intended for retrieving ducks that had been shot & landed in open water. It wasnt very stable, rolled over & sank so i lost $210 & i havent seen them on the ProBoat ads again.
In our club a few members do up their Springer push tugs as funny boats. They end up with John Depp at the wheel in a pirate costume or some other laughable character. Mine has Minnie Mouse, purchased for $3 at DOLLARAMA. ZIPPKITS in Florida puts up a great Springer tug kit, simple to assemble & she, your DW, cud customize to her heart's content. They are very stable. My 1st has a brushless, 9LB all up with Asia's. My 2nd will hav twin 540's. Zippkits sells motors, speed controls, & running gear sets separately.

Fun/funny Boat

Hi Westwind,

I like fun boats. I have three, a rowboat, a kayak and a duck!

There are Blogs on this site for my Rowboat and Kayak - both are scratch built.

The only rowboat kit I'm aware of was the Graupner 'Tina' but it is no longer available.

My wife is looking for a fun/silly boat. She is thinking a row boat with a figure might be nice. Are there any Row Boat kits out there, I've only found scratch built
