Ive decided now my model making Is back Into full swing to scratch build a Barnett class lifeboat , After the plans arrived I set to work cutting out the frames from ply and also the keel but that just didnt seem right so that lot went In the bin ! My thinking was that If I was going to build the thing then do It right so a new keel was cut from oak as were all the frames , The stringers are made from Alder . The hull will be fully ribbed with Oak ,now some will maybe think why ? nobodys going to see the ribs etc ! The simple answer Is that I will know and If I am to build something that I plan to keep then I will feel much better If I do the best job that I can do . The hull will be double diagonal planked with mahogany so when complete she should be a very strong boat Indeed , I will post some pictures In the coming days and throughout , Alongside this build I will be building a Liverpool class using the same methods 😊
