Roy,
The lower level of both parking ramps is covered. The top level is open but plowed quite well, as they need to accomodate the shops in the area.
So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.
Hi DWB, thanks for the detail I looked through it and can see what a great looking place you have.
With your usual temperatures is the car parking covered over?
Nice to have the cooperation of the local council. In S. England they can be very difficult but as you get more north things do improve.
all the best
Roy
Roy,
The buildings do affect the wind somewhat. However, there is "green space" around as well. So the pond gets some wind. It's not ideal, but the facility as a whole makes for nice boating.
The space is a city park with two large two-level parking ramps adjacent, which serve a shopping area as well as the park. There is a pavilion on the ponds that is used as an event venue also, so adequate parking is a must.
I am attaching a couple of pictures that might help visualize the grounds and facilities.
The pictures of the boats out sailing were taken at the "South Pond" (bottom of second picture), which is the largest of the three and most suited to sailboats.
The third picture is of the center pond by the pavilion. This is where the scale speed electrics mostly run.
Our club has a close working relationship with the park management. Together we came up with the rules on the attached sign, and we are authorized to help enforce them.

Hi DWB do the high buildings distort the wind directions? I would imagine a slow wind revolving around the lake. Where I used to sail the removal of a large tree changed the wind on the water.
What about where to park your cars? The lack of parking locally almost killed off the club use of the lake.
However all looks very nice.

what nice and "romantic" pictures of your pond and sailing yachts. You can tell by the faces that they have loved the sailing.
Forget the temperatures and al the rest
Just enjoy life to the full

OK, for those that don't know, I live in the frozen tundra called Minnesota. We have nice weather in the summer, and brutal weather in the winter. That is, normally .... This has been an extremely unusual winter (the weather experts call it El Nino). It did get cold enough for a short time to make some ice on the lakes and ponds, we even had a few ice fishing shelters on the lake for a few days. THEN, it warmed up. Christmas weekend, we got 4+ inches of rain. It has been in the high 30's F to low 50's F for over a week!
Today, 6 members of our local boat club (Edina Model Yacht Club) took their ODOM sailboats out to the club pond and went sailing!!!! 😮 In the second and third pictures, you can see a cardboard sign with 12-29-23 written on it.
It's 10:45PM, and it is still 32F right now. In my 72 years, I cannot remember a winter like this. For reference, at this time of year there would normally be 18-24" of ice on the lakes.
PS Please don't start with the "Global Warming" lecture. Last winter we froze our tushes off, and the snow was up to those frozen tushes all winter!
