Thanks guys, I thought you might have forgotten about me.
I'm going to start a new thread soon about my grandson's boat restoration. Here are the initial pictures as today I brought it home, first impressions are it's not too bad, hull seems quite firm, apart from the transom which is delaminating.
Motor and propshaft rotate but will be changing it for brushless.
Any comments gldlay received, cheers Colin.

Well guys and gals, I'm still here took ages to get back to almost normal, I am still getting used to having permanent pins and needles in both of my lower arms and hands.
I have disposed of all my engineering equipment as I wasn't able to use it anymore.
But was brought back to reality when my grandson asked me if we could get back to modelling, as he'd been given an early aerokits crash tender, 48" version which needs restoration.
I'll post some pictures when I get to see it.
So it looks like I need to get my workshop sorted ready for action.
I hope you will forgive my absence but my head wasn't ready for sensible conversation.
But hopefully I will be able to read and reply to your great posts, and I hope you will be honest and helpful about my restoration work.
One thing I must ask is for recommendation of brushless motor and speed control for this forthcoming project, suitable to use with my preferred 12v sla batteries. I have everything else needed. ( I hope).
Good night and look forward to being back among you all.
Cheers Colin.

You guys are simply the best, your warm wishes fill me with joy.
Doctors say I may be allowed to go home tomorrow or sat, if they can break my fever. Can't wait as I have just bought a vw caravelle to allow the family and our boats to travel in style without the need for a trailer. Had a legacy from my mum and another from the wife's aunt. Took ages to find one that suited our needs. The grandchildren have called it the Black Pearl from pirates of the Caribbean. It's pearlescent black and changes colour in the sun.

I did make a drawing of it back in 1977

There is a strong resemblance of the two boats. However, the Pooh boat has a taller cabin. But that could be the model being different a bit.

I have to locate two more photos I took of the Pooh boat.

Any more info on this Katherine boat?

Thanks👍

Glad your boat was rescued. You never know how the next person may enjoy it.

My very first RC boat was a small tug made of plastic that I got from a fellow modeler so I can start boating. I made a simple barge for it and loaded it with trucks and also one of my drones ( which I actually flew off from, but did not land back on it ). Here is a picture of the simple set up.😎

I am looking to get another tug and convert it to an old river tug when my girlfriend ( and now my wife ) went on it. I searched the internet for the boat named Pooh ( as in Pooh bear ) and there is no info on it unfortunatly, but I have a couple of photos of it.

Be well

Isaac, I just threw out my first rc boat build, a 42 inch tug. Fortunately someone took it off my trash can. I have two scale Springer tugs and one towboat. Tugs are fun especially when using barges. I recommend that if anyone has a tug, get a barge or two (or more). I have three.

Even when disasters strike and the shit hits the fan, need to get some diversions. My diversions are riding my bicycle, building models, fixing models ( boats and planes ), volunteering at my favorite aviation events (Young Eagles), presenting at our History club.....😎.

How about starting a new boat build! Tugboats are my favorite.

Let's give the world a little time. Perhaps it is in a correction mode.
As for model boats, I had just started to disassemble my Graupner Wiesel to upgrade the running gear when the storm hit us. This will probably be my first project when I get time.
I personally feel that these Zobel class boats were the best looking warships ever built.
Probably no more new builds as I have a lot of upgrades to work on.
Thanks for cheering me on and moral support. I'm getting tired of home repairing, cleanup, and moving furniture.

Having lived over the years in Tampa, Pensacola & Jacksonville, am well familiar with those Florida storms. Luckily, I dodged my share but still remember what the Panhandle looked like after Opel hit in 1995.

Sadly, I would not get any hopes up that additional FEMA or other funding will come from "cutting waste" - what we are witnessing now are nothing more than distractions while laying the groundwork for a massive tax dodge that our children & grandchildren will be stuck with for years to come. Senseless, if you ask me & I'm an old school conservative who is still shaking my head as to how we got here since 2015.

Back to model boats. They are certainly more fun to think about & build. 👍

I think I'm still here as well! No model building yet as our house is still a mess. It's been 4-1/2 months since Hurricane Milton struck us and it feels like 4-1/2 years. Trying to get as much done as I can.
The good news is the flooring company started installing our new flooring last week (finally). The first photo is my "office" (aka craft, communications, lab, 3D printing, etc. room). The second photo is my game room with the billiard table slid over. Heavy slate table took some effort to move.
Hopefully we will get phase one completed by my 81st birthday in a few weeks. The light at the end of the tunnel is starting to show even though it is now only a pinhole.

Hello dear friends of modelling,
The very title of this forum is awesome. All the posts about joys and sorrows, yes, they are part of life. What I personally like are the honest words that are given to you.
We have a 93-year-old widower in our club who is fully dedicated to modelling. He once told me that crafting in old age puts bad and stupid thoughts to one side. That's why he doesn't need a psychiatrist.
If I had as much energy as him at the age of 93, I would have to keep the ships coming to my son's house. This is not possible in our own home, despite my craft room.
🤣🤣🤣
As Chuck already wrote, life is far too short, so we use this time wisely and pass on our skills to our children and grandchildren. . . The world we live in at the moment is too digitalised, but useful for crafting!
Enough typing, my craft room is calling . . .
Your Michel-C.
Ps: Today I need a double starter coffee 👍🤣🥰

Hi Lew, hope you get through this ok and get everything sorted, power on etc - not what you want at this stage of life. We have had huge floods recently in various parts of the country here in NZ, (nothing on the US scale) but as a small country it's big to us. Australia has had its' problems as well,-cyclones, floods, fires etc, also the Pacific Islands (Tonga, Samoa Fiji etc) seems to be happening world wide. Hope you get some decent weather after it to get the house drying out etc. Hopefully it was only water and not mud like others have had to deal with, -still a major though.
Thinking of everyone in the disaster areas there,- stay safe

Good morning shipmates, I'm feeling much brighter today as after numerous tests and a full body mri scan I got the results from the hospital. Suspected cancer, now ruled out, symptoms were being caused by stress and that's ongoing.
But they are giving me some relaxation medication and anti stress therapy to help.
So after getting my results yesterday evening I sat and had a quiet drink in the garden contemplating life. Glad I did as this is what I saw.
Cheers Colin.

That sucks. Flooded and battered twice in a row. Hope you are OK from the fall.

I was a bit luckier. Even though the eye of the hurricane hit us here in Venice, my home made it thru the 100 mph winds. I am approx 3/4 of a mile from the Myakka river and we thought we would flood, but did not. We hunkered down, buttoned the hatches and made it thru. No power yet. Running on generator .

I hope you dry out fast and get the mold out of the house.

I am questioning living in Florida. This is getting to be crazy here.

The emergency people wanted to evac me on a high water vehicle (we are flooded as well) but I told them nothing is broken, just a lot of pain. Stubborn me. Lew
