WEED PROBLEMS ON THE "OWLsMBC" LAKE

HI Max
If it is Algae I'm not sure if a line will work. Our lake has pond weed which wraps round the line (and yacht keels) and acts as a large rake as we pull into the shore. Algae may just break up so you may need a net. Good luck with the Golf Course owners.

WEED PROBLEMS ON THE "OWLsMBC" LAKE

Hi! Dave M
think the weed is string algae.
The lake is surrounded by agricultural land and golf course so I expect that nutrients are prolific in the water as the lake is fed from the field drainage. Will have a word with the owners of the Golf Course to see if they will fit pump to aerate the water.
Looks like we will have to try the dragging a metal line across as you suggest.
Many thanks again for your suggestions.

WEED PROBLEMS ON THE "OWLsMBC" LAKE

HI Max
What type of weed are you experiencing?
At this time of the year and especially after all the hot and sunny days Algae will proliferate. Nutrients in the water will make matter worse especially if there is no moving water. Does your lake fill from drainage from the surrounding golf course? if so what chemicals are they using?
Aereation of the water either by a fountain or compressor pumping air into the middle of the lake can Improve the situation but possibly the growth is too far advanced.
If it is weed you could try using a metal washing line cast out and sunk into the lake and then pulled in by two people. We use a similar solution at our sailing water, but be warned the weed will be back next week.
Unfortunately at 1 metre the depth of water is ideal for underwater plants and they will all grow rapidly to the surface.
Good luck with your efforts and if you find a solution please post details. 😀

WEED PROBLEMS ON THE "OWLsMBC" LAKE

Hi! Dave
thanks for your suggestion, yes we have used Barley Hay in the past but the weed has got past this I'm afraid. We don't have a through feed of water so perhaps that's the problem, but anyway thanks for you suggestion and interest.

WEED PROBLEMS ON THE "OWLsMBC" LAKE

Hi
We had the same problem at our pond, it's council owned, they put some barley bails in, that seemed to help with the problem, but our pond does have a small water feed. I hope this will help with your problem, fingers crossed.

WEED PROBLEMS ON THE "OWLsMBC" LAKE

Hi! Guys
having dosed our lake In Ormskirk with copious supply of DYOFIX blue dye to combat weeds, I am afraid the weed Is winning. Has anybody out there any Ideas on how we can combat the weed problem.
We started off last year with a clean dredged lake and a plastic liner. The lake Is about 1 metre deep for most of Its area, It Is surrounded by golf course, fields and countryside with a couple of trees at the bottom end.
We have very limited money to spend on this venture and most of us retired so any hectic strenuous physical activity Is out, but would welcome any suggestions.
Thanks Guys.
