SHG Marine Shadow

I can't remember now whether my old Shadow (i.c. engine, 40 plus years ago) was orange or yellow. Looking forward to getting the current work in progress on the water next year.

Yes, I remember the SHG Shadow very well - a nice little glass fibre hulled power boat from SHG Marine.

It was quite a striking design when it first came out

Almost every one I ever saw was in orange -but I did see a white one once!
Never too old to learn

SHG Marine Shadow

Here are a few pictures of my Shadow, taken about a year ago. The motor will not be used, a brushless is on hand to go into this one. The mechanical speed controller could be a museum piece, especially with the custom sellotape wrapping!
There was a lot of fibreglass filler almost holding the shaft tube in place, but I managed to remove that, as well as separating the poorly attached deck from the hull.
I got a little side-tracked after that, and have only retrieved it from the loft in the last few days.
Once I have finished restoring the Graupner Glasgow I bought recently, this will be back on the bench.

SHG Marine Shadow

I had a Shadow with a .21 glow engine (I think it was a Webra, but it was over 40 years ago) and thoroughly enjoyed sailing it mostly at Black Park (i.c. was still allowed and popular then).
A year ago, I picked up a partially built Shadow from Bicester, but sadly haven't made much progress on it yet. I had forgotten how difficult it is to get rid of the smell of polyester resin!
My second on will definitely be brushless as it is a long drive to anywhere that allows i.c. nowadays. I had a go with a club mates electric Shadow and it brought back plenty of memories.

SHG Marine Shadow

It seems every time I go on holiday I end up with a new boat, usually another pond yacht but this time I found what I believe is a SHG Marine Shadow on FB Marketplace near Minnis Bay. Collected this morning and is in great condition. The i/c motor and ancillaries will be replaced with a suitable brushless motor and ESC once I get home and raid the spares box, as there’s nowhere local to me to run i/c.

Does anyone remember the Shadow? I’m assuming early 1980s or possibly earlier
