US Coast guard 44MLB Rudder

Hmmm. Got me on that one. I remember barn door rudders. If the drawing you posted is correct, if you can find the size of the life-ring, you can use that to scale the rudder. It was 29 years ago, so my memory is fuzzy. Still miss 20 something me, he was not very observant and kind of had an unearned attitude, but he had spirit.

US Coast guard 44MLB Rudder

Hi Bruce: Based on some other mechanical drawings I saw, the actual rudder(s) in 1/16th scale (3/4 to 1) are about 18" wide x 22" tall. In 1/16th scale that would be 1.125" x 1.375"
However, in some of the photos I see the rudder seems to be taller...maybe 16" X 28". Certainly hard to tell.

Also, this so my "go-to" scale converter...it's a bit tricky to start, once you get the hang of it, you can't beat it.

I suspect that Dumas chose to use the same ruder it uses on other kits. Your plans are correct. Rectangular rudders were fitted. That said, it is possible that different series of boat mounted different rudders. Therefore, which particular boat you are building may make a difference.
A couple of pictures of 44's out of water. Many can be found on line.

US Coast guard 44MLB Rudder

I currently building a US Coast guard 44MLB. I want to stay as close to scale as possible. and using it as RC also.
The Rudder that Dumas included is Rounded. By the drawing and photo's this boat has a more rectangular shaped Rudder. See attached USCG drawing.
My questions are, is there a reason for Dumas making a rounded Rudder?
Does anyone know the dimensions for the real Rudder 3/4;1 scale.
