Baby Bootlegger

I have watched many videos on YouTube of the real Baby Bootlegger together with several Rc versions. Not the same with an electric motor as hearing that v12 kick in. Also intrigued by Miss American, another classic.

One can dream.

Some interesting historical information. This link briefly describes the involvement of Bruce Barnhard, owner of Quissett Boatyard, in rebuilding the real Baby B. This boatyard remains in business “right around the water corner” from my homeport in Woods Hole. I knew Bruce quite well as he hauled a couple of my boats several times on his old marine railway.A fine individual, a true old salt, & one of the colorful local folks.

Today Quissett Boatyard is run by his daughter & her husband. Far as I know the old marine railway remains in operation. https://newenglandboatandmotor.com/baby

Hi from New Zealand. What size mahogany strips are you looking for? I am coming to NY in March and I could bring it up if it's not too much. That's of course if you live in the area as the US is a biiiiiiggggg country. Cheers Ian

Hey there Jamie. Horizon Hobbies and Tower Hobbies both sell Midwest balsa and basswood. Blick Art and Amazon do as well.
Exotic strip woods can be found on both Etsy and EBay.
And I am with DW and Chum, you cannot top Callie Graphics for decals.

Callie Graphics is the go to source for graphics of all persuasions. I’ve
been using her services for over ten years.

I just ordered balsa wood and bass wood from National Balsa. Good price and good delivery. Packaged in a way as to not get damaged in shipping. The only down side is the cost of shipping is not cheap. But if you purchase $100.00 US it’s free!

For wood, have you tried Dumas?
Also I've heard of people that use Callie Graphics for decals. I haven't used her personally, but people seem to like her.

So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Hi Jamie.
First of all welcome to this forum.

Unfortunately I can't help you because the shops I know are useless for you who are in the USA. Too far away.
Some of them also do e-commerce but I don't know how much it's worth to you, surely you will find something closer to you thanks to the advice of the modelers on this site.
But is it possible that near where you live there are no model shops?

Baby Bootlegger

Greetings,

New to this site, wasn't sure if this is the kind of question that could be answered here.

1) Working from Baby Bootlegger plans and I need Balsa and mahogany strips. Any good places to purchase them?

2) I would like to duplicate the gold stickers (numbers/letters) on the side. Any company supply them or custom make them?

Thank you!
