Fairey Huntsman 31

That looks really nice thadlietz.

I have two Precedent Huntsman 31 kits that both have white glass fibre hulls, and your looks so similar - it could have been an exact copy. 🤣

These hulls are still available on ebay (just checked) and they would be perfect for anyone who would like a Fairey style of deep vee hull for a future project.

One of my two hulls may end-up being the base for one of the new style Spear sports day boats, but here are other cabin variants of the Huntsman 31 that are also very tempting.......and would be a lot less work!

Sorry, missed that you'd already ordered it! As Bob says, looks good in some shots.

Just messaged you.

I have just taken a good look at it on my iPad, and from what I can see the picture shown on here is the worst looking one as it makes the hull look as though it has wobbly sides, but maybe it has shadows or is grubby as the other pictures make it look much better and the sides look straight.

Without actually holding one it is hard to tell, but from what I can see, I would be happy to take a chance on it at £49.99 .

The hull is hand laid, and although each one is made to order (and no refunds are offered), the maker is responsible for the quality, and if it is substandard a chargeback would no doubt be seen as reasonable by your credit card provider or PayPal.

Hi Chris,
I only have mobile devices while I am away, but I will take a good look at it shortly,

Hi Bob - what do you think about the hull on Ebay?

I think the link that Chris has given you covers everything that I was going to do.

The builder has chosen his own superstructure to suit his preference and it looks good.

He has also chosen twin shaft drive so that option is covered too.

If you need any other help that I can provide from the Precedent kit, please let me know 👍

Fairey Huntsman 31

Hi thadlietz

That's interesting, had a look at Ebay and it's actually someone reproducing the hull along with a few other designs. Normally these fibreglass hulls only become available as a built model or as part of a kit or sometimes the parts have become separated or scrapped and just the hull is sold. The kits were Precedent (as are most of the kits) which was then sold to Anglian Model Centre before going out of business.

I was going to refer you to this build anyway as the builder is doing exactly what you intend and has fitted twin motors if you do want to do that. Joe has made a lovely job of it.

I think I'd be a little wary of that hull as it seems a bit cheap and when looking down the side and down on it it looks wavy? Also it looks a bit thin compared with Joe's. If it was me I'd be asking a few questions of the seller as no doubt postage to you will be quite expensive. Not too much of a risk for us though. He has good feedback I see.

What do you think Bob? Just put Huntsman Fibreglass Hull into Ebay.

If the hulls are good quality it's a good option for me as I've thought about getting a fibreglass hull for another build.

Chris

The President Huntsman 31 with a glass fibre hull is a future project that I have too.

I hope to build mine as one of the Huntsman Sport 31 variants - possibly this winter.

When I get home next, I will take some pictures of the President kit bulkhead frame assembly that will sit inside the hull as it may be of some help to you?

I can also check the suggested prop shaft length and rudder position for this 34” model if you are building it with a single motor, single shaft drive?

Chris is the best resource for the superstructure details so you already have the contact to help you build the Huntsman type of your choice.

Good luck with your project - the deep vee Fairey hulls really drive well so you have made a very good choice of hull.

Sorry to hear about the sinking. The hull you have is more likely to be nearer to 34" when measured over the rubbing strips and is likely to be from the Precedent kit at the odd scale of 1:11.

If you send me a message with your email I can help you out with drawings etc. This will be in a few hours time as going to bed now! Have stopped up far too late this side of the pond!

Fairey Huntsman 31

Well my Deans Marine HMS Royal Marine was lost with all hands yesterday by an errant fireboat. Ran right over it and she was out of sight... not even bubbles and there seems no hope of recovery😭🤕🤑 Well the owner of said fireboat is reimbursing me of course but it is still a loss. Which brings me to the subject. I have ordered (at fireboats expense😉) a fibreglass hull for a Huntsman 31 off of ebay. As it's some 33 inches long it seems to be in 1:12 scale soooo.... are their drawings/plans available for this scale and/or who or where can I get them as I'm going to have to scratch build the superstructure etc. ? 1 motor or 2? motor size?? I welcome all input😁. I have been reading all of the posts about the Fairey's🤔 and love the way they seem to run so as my Royal Marine took the plunge😉 so shall I. This will be my first attempt at such so away we go! Thank you all in advance!👍
