Thames Barge "Kitty"

HI Lee,
I asked Brian about the material he used for my Barge sails, it was purchased at John Lewis Haberdashery and is curtain liner (red is best for a Thames Barge).

HI Lee,

With regards to the sails I was very fortunate to have a club member supply and make the sails for me as he had the material and the skills to carry out this job so I don't know exactly what cloth he used.
Are you in a club? if so I am sure one of the members will know what material to use.

Yes I have installed a false removable keel (about 6lbs in weight). Don't forget that the model I built had modified plans so the scale of my barge is approx. 1:29.
If you are building to the original drawing scale then your then your keel will be much lighter.

If you are not a Model Boat Club member I would suggest that you locate the nearest one and join as you will get lots of advice and practical help.

Cheers, Ian

HI Ian I am new to this site, the barge looks brilliant, I my self have just started to build the same boat from the same plan, I after the materials for the sail where did you require it from? And have you gone with a weighted keel? I have noticed the plans are saying a fake keel? Regards Lee.

Thames Barge "Kitty"

HI Guys,

Not been on the site for quite a while but now I have finished my first scratch built model of the Thames Barge "Kitty" I thought I would show my face again.
My model was built from blown up scale of the free plan In Model Boat Mag. which I borrowed from a club member and It works out at about 1:29 scale (hull 3ft long).
As a first scratch built model I am very pleased with the finished product and I only have to complete the false keel to finally get It on the water at 'Boundary Park'.
I must say that I did not make the sails as I don't have the equipment or the skills to do this job so I must thank Brian Clewes for doing this job for me.
