Hi Stephen,

Thank you for looking into this.

That's what has me puzzled. None of those error messages apply to my situation. The message I was trying to send was only about 20 words long:

"Chuck, it's good to hear you're back on the forum. Have you seen the various build logs about your Juanita?"

Yet the system repeatedly responds with "Write a shorter message."

I have tried several times, including retyping the message, and I get the same result every time. Since the message is extremely short, I don't believe it has anything to do with the 12,000-character limit.

Could there be another issue with the messaging system or perhaps a restriction on my account?

These are the only errors you could get for private messages:

Message body over 12,000 characters - “That message is too long. Please shorten it and try again.”
No text and no photo - “Please write a message or attach a photo.”
No recipient - “Please choose who you want to message.”
Messaging yourself - “You can't send a private message to yourself.”

I can only imagine you're trying to send something over 12,000 characters? If so, maybe it's best put into a word document or similar and attached?

It went off as usual, no strange messages!
Guess you'll have to ask Stephen (Fireboat).

Write a shorter message.

Hi guys,

I'm trying to send a message to Chuck in China, but no matter what I write—even very short messages—the forum blocks it and displays a message in red letters saying, "Write a shorter message."

Has anyone experienced this before?

Is there a limit on the length of private messages, or could there be another reason for it?
I was wondering if it might have something to do with sending messages overseas, but that doesn't seem likely.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
I suspect the problem is not that Chuck is in China.
More likely:
* The forum has a minimum number of posts before private messaging is allowed?
* Chuck's inbox is full?
* New members have message restrictions?
* There is a software glitch with the forum's messaging system.?

One of the forum moderators will probably know the answer.
