I love the little Bumper Boats!
Were they a kit, or scratch built?

So far my collection resembles "The Island of Misfit Toys". I've picked up several boats that are old builds and have been neglected. I'm giving them the TLC they need, hoping to bring them back to their former glory. Once I get enough practice/ experience I intend to take on a full build.

Hi The Edina club is clearly looked upon as an asset by the local community, which is the way it should be.
Where I live, although I no longer get out to the Boating pond in St. Albans, but the community like us but the local council just tolerate our presence. But the club has survived some very foolish councillors over the years! Next year will be our 80th. anniversary and I hope it will be a good one.

Our club, KMBC, has bumper boats and small lifeboats for the children to operate on open days as well as yachts for the public to try out.
You can see all of these on my last gallery post

Dave, a very nice event. Your club’s relationship with the city is a model for others yet it seldom happens.
Great to have the kids participate. They probably forget the experience until later in their lives and then have an AHA moment & fondly remember the outing.
Well done!

The addition of the Vac-U-Tug boats That are free for spectators to use, a couple years ago has proven to be a real draw for families and kids.
We have had numerous comments from parents that the reason they come back every year is because of the interactive experience with the model tugs.
We feel it is a positive factor in getting younger people involved.

Roy,
Our club has a long history with the Edina Parks and Recreation Dept. In fact, they were instrumetal in establishing our club back in 1991. At that point, we were considered to be a part of the Parks Department. Over the years that has changed, and we are no longer considered a part of the city organization.
We do, however, have a very close relationship with them. They allow us an equipement storage cage in the park maintenence building, and they allow us use of the Municipal Band practice space for our monthly meetings. They also allow us use of the Pavilion for our 4 major events every year.
The park likes that we are a big "draw" to the park during events, and we promote the park any way we can. The last several years, a local television station has come out and filmed 4 segments that they air throughout the day a week before the event, this brings a lot of attention to the park. The city does not charge us for the use of the maintenence building space or Pavilion, but they do require that we carry insurance. We enjoy a pretty symbiotic relationship with the park/city.
Our club Commodore is recently retired, and volunteers at the park several days a week, which has served to strengthen our relationship with them.

Hi I have some questions about organisation. Do you pay to 'hire' the venue? Does the venue management demand PL insurance?

It all looks great and so relaxed, and the local community come out to enjoy the day.
Well done to all.

2026 Edina Model Yacht Club "Parade of Boats" event

On Sunday June 7th, The Edina Model Boat Club held our 2026 "Parade of Boats" event Sunday. At 10AM, I counted 106 boats, and I know a few more showed up after I counted. It was a gorgeous day, and we had a lot of spectators. The local Classic Boat club arranged to provide 2 gorgeous full sized classic wooden boats to display out front. We had model boats pulling water skiers, a burning barge that was extinguished by model boats with fire monitors, one of our members provided excellent PA announcements throughout the day, we had a sailboat race demonstration, and as always our 2 Vac-U-Tug boats that we have available for people to try their hand at are always a huge hit with the younger crowd.
