Most of my working days were spent in the darkroom as a commercial printer. Col
interesting to see yet another member looking at more use of 3d for the larger parts rather than for detailing.
After reading a post recently I decided to give it a go and have to say, I'm pleased with the results, although contrary to a previous statement I made on this very site, I do feel like I cheated 🫣, or at least took a big shortcut in "building" my boat. I've been working on a PT boat for over a year on and off, trying to figure out electrics and waterproofing, yet in 2 weeks I've built a fully functional, almost 4 ft, battleship, although it's yet to see a proper pond. (The files for this build were very kindly loaded onto makerworld for free by JKnittel). I'm almost afraid to take it to the local model boat club in case I offend the true craftsmen who created masterpieces from a few boards and a pot of glue!
For the past decade I have taken part in Worldwide PinHole photography Day and the plan was take a nice harbour shot who said the best plans can always come unstuck, well mine did , after so many years sitting in the front room and not seeing the light of day I wasn't sure if the sails could handle the harbour..so the whole venture was cancelled.
As you can see from the captions it has changed , now going just fine Col.

I have been a keen model maker for many years, I guess My first model was made from a scrap of timber carved with a blunt penknife the year must have been the the very late 1940s .
Because of a slight medical problem, I have curtailed using power tools in the shed and have started making a small-scale RC boat using a 3D printer that was a hand me down from my son, the boat in question is the 'Bluebird of Chelsea' this was a cruiser built for the English speed ace Donalad Campbell.
The results are nowhere as good a scratch building, but it's a good learning curve, looks like you can teach an old dog new tricks Col.
I could post my progress snaps if anyone is interested
Ps I hope this posting is in the correct place.
