You will soon become more savvy with the settings, then you can really control whatever you wish. Don't forget the two way facility and the ability to check conditions on the model whilst at sea, all visible on the big screen

I HATE YOU DAVE !!!!!!!!!!!

Finally I have found a usb plug to fit the TX and am ploughing my way through setting up and programming.

Thank whoever for you tube!

my other half is reduced to passing food and drinks while walking around as silently as possible. Even the cat is in hiding.

I think this TX has more computing power than the shuttle launches.

Once I had the required drivers and software flashing the firmware modding the sound files and generally pulling hair out in handfuls went well.

Thanks again for the pointer to this beast!!

Welcome to the future. I am still learning how to configure my Taranis - so many possibilities. Do enrol in the development forum as others will help with your wishes and if it needs a new bit of code that usually appears within a few days.

You will have the latest EU version so you need to either buy new rx or program any (pre 2015) rx to the new version. Software is freely available on the internet from FrSky.

Glad to have helped you make your choice!!!!!!!

Used GiantCod but there are other suppliers online in the UK. I have recently sourced through Ebay. FrSky have a good web site with all their products and updates to the software. Since early 2015 EU legislation required 2.4 Tx sets to check if each spot channel was not too conjested before transmitting. Modern sets should state if they are pre or post 2015, FrSky sets can be converted to either standard. its not illegal to use either, just all new sets have to comply if sold in the EU.
All my equipment is pre 2015 so I convert any new sets to the same standard.
Have a look on the web under open source software for the Taranis. Really is a very versatile piece of kit that allows you to configure each and every stick, switch or slider to whatever function you want, including full mixing of multI channels.

AHAH most interesting Dave thanks for that data.

The multifunction tx/rx setup looks most interesting ( yeah I am a tech junky) I presume your ordering through a UK supplier.

Regarding 2.4Ghz it did used to be the case that you had to buy the very costly manufacturers Rxs.

However in recent years the position has changed and there are now several alternatives from independent suppliers that will work with specific transmitters. You do have to check that you have the correct protocol for your system, but most re-sellers make it plain in the ad and specs.

An example I use is the TRF6 from FrSky which works as well if not better than the Futaba versions for thier FASST system as used by the 6Ex model. Price is around the £20 mark so similar to other offerings.

Many now use two way systems that allow battery, temp and speed info to be monitored. This is useful if using LiPos as you can bring the model in before the auto shut off strands it in the middle of the lake. The rx also allow for daisy chaining of rx giving up to 12 channels, useful if you have a large scale model with multiple on board working features. I use a Taranis tx which really opens up the possibilities with its programming capability.

Like Derek I find the Spectrum programming challenging, but fellow club members use them and they are a nice solid piece of kit.

I use Spektrum dx6i's. 10 independently programmable settings. if as I have, you own multiple boats that use most of the channels. it saves having to set up for example rudder, motor direction & speed, pumps or whatever. Switch on and select model name and away you go. However they are complicated to get your head round.

Rx and Tx need to be of same manufacture if your going for 2.4GHz.

27Mg and 40Mg seem to be free of this.

2.4gHz however uses encoding that is manufacture specific so no way can you predict manufacturer's system will work with another.

As to one at a time welllllllll I don't know why you would want to but you can have 2 ( or more) receivers working at the same time from one transmitter. its no different from the many receivers working at the same time from say BBC radio 4. Just make sure that the Rx are not to close together.

Pmdent,

People here have advised going for more than the basic 2 channels, as price is not that much different this could be a good move if you are planning to steal the water cannons etc.

Yes you can use a single transmitter with any number of receivers but just one at a time.

HI Peter, Rather than going for the 2 channel set, the small extra cost of the 6 channel is a not brainer, if in the future you want extra opperating features it would mean upgrading the set.

My Radio link works superbly well, great range and responce, the recievers are cheep and easily available either from Radiolink direct or from ebay.

Its basic no programing, simple trims, plug and play.

Hope this helps

HI Jarvo, tagging along on this post to get some clarification on which RC system to buy. I have a 2 channel R36 sailing model that I need to upgrade to digital and am also rebuilding a 34" Crash Tender that I plan to have 2 channel radio also - I am presuming I can run both boats off one transmitter and have two receivers one for each boat....... I am looking to keep costs low !! Would the RadioLink 2 channel do the job - what benefits going to 4 channel ??

HI Dave

Depends on price mostley, I started of with a Radio Link 6 channel, on ebay they are about £50, some people use Planet, from Howes, £60ish, if you take a subscription with Model Boat mag you get a free Planet T5!!!!

I have now updated to Futaba T6 but these are £130

Send me a PM and I would sell the Radio Link with 2 recievers for £20, including a case
