New Server

Thanks everyone. Photo definition is a strange one! I did carry out some re-rendering of avatars and photos but I didn't actually think it would make any difference, it was simply done to reduce the amount of file transferring needed. When Images are uploaded the original Image is re-rendered into various resolutions to Improve download speeds. Copying all these different sized Images of the same Image drastically increases backup times. I can only guess the rendering engines on the new server are much better! Not something I predicted... although I'm happy to claim it as a deliberate Improvement I made 😉

Push notifications are now fixed too. Anyone with the IOS / Android / Windows app will now receive them again. Also it was reported that the search box wasn't working correctly either, this has also been fixed.

I don't know of anything else now......... so hopefully everything is healthy again! 🤐 😁

I agree totally. The site seems to respond quicker and the definition of the photos are definitely better.
Well done and thanks for all your efforts and the continuing Improvement Stephen.

HI All,

The transfer has been a little more bumpy than expected. Apologies for the downtime over the last couple of days.

We're now on the new server. The only final thing that isn't working that I know of are the push notifications. Hopefully that will be fixed in the coming days.

If anyone spots anything else like faulty pages, errors, missing Images etc then please let me know.

New Server

HI All,

In the coming weeks the website Is being transfered to a new server. It's a gradual process, lots of content syncing Is required which takes time. The website has grown to be around 30GB In size, this Is with the database and all file uploads, attachments etc. The previous hosting company had a 40GB maximum storage capacity and It's really outgrowing that limit. That and the fact there are now newer faster services available means It's time to transfer.

I don't anticipate there to be any problems. Visually nothing changes. Testing on the new server has so far seemed much faster to return pages, processing of server code and database queries run quicker. Storage Is greater, It's backed up regulally and offers a content delivery network which means graphics and static content In theory should load faster.

There Is still much to transfer and It's possible I may need to take the website offline at some point to ensure nothing Is lost In the final stages, but I'll keep It to as short amount of time as possible.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this website and helped It grow. Hopefully the much needed upgrade will help sustain It for many more years to come!
