Many thanks, That is a good idea. We are blessed with a couple of local clubs so I'll see what they can offer.

HI saltysnogbad
If you can find a model boat club near to home it might be a good idea to attend one of their sailing sessions and ask for help. The Caldercraft kits are very good but you will need some guidance to help you fit the basic construction.
As you intend to sail the model it would be a chance to see other models on the water and examine how others have constructed their models, and see what radio gear they are using. Unless you are intending to fly a model plane modern RC 2.4 Ghz sets will have more than enough range.
Howes Models website have some good multichannel sets that work just as well as the dearer offerings from Futaba and Spectrum, with the added benefit that additional receivers (for other models) don't cost an arm and a leg.
Good luck with your build, and please keep us posted with your progress. You can, of course, ask on the forum for any specific help you require.

grins to quote Mr Adams "DON'T PANIC"

oh and its planet RC equipment I had a senior moment on my previous post

Get a 7 function set using the old adage its better to have and not need than need and not have.
The more functions you have the more things you can make happen on a scale boat.

Someone else building the same model worth a read.

Some pics of a build

Hope this helps.

nb. it seems that there is a potential for this model to be top heavy so get as much of your weight as possible low down in the hull.

Thank you very much for this helpful guidance. Clearly this is going to be a steeper learning curve than I imagined, but all the more enjoyable for that!

Some ideas on wiring your RC

http://www.action-electronics.co.uk/pdfs/Sir%20Kay%20-%20Harry%20Koostra.pdf

including one setup for the "sir Kay" you would need a multI channel tx and rx so you have spare channels to switch on and off the extras.

2 functions are the minimum 1 for motor control and one for steering.

The Plantronics tx/rx setups are 2.4MHz and CHEAP with so far good reports. They do however have limited range.
I would recommend a 2.4MHz setup since they "bind" rx to tx so obviate the need for crystals and the problems of waiting for a free frequency.

Other companies do sound modules speed controllers and switchers so do a search.

admiralty sound modules demo.

Above all take your time have fun and accept you will make errors ( we all do ) you will see your errors when no one else can!

does anyone have any additional guidance (beyond what appears to be detailed instructions) for building this model, please. This is my first venture into a scale model and also to R/C, so any guidance (even books/articles I should read) will be much appreciated.
