If I could add, the mesh guards I used in full size comprised a mesh about 6mm wide x about 50mm long (each hole) and the wire was about 2mm dia. This mesh was held on a framework some distance from the pump but for a model I would forget about the frame and support it from the hull. You will need to experiment!!!

Hi,

It's a mesh guard around the propeller. I've only used them in full size, not models, and then for floating pumps. However they kept weeds away from the pumps, which are similar to props.

Good luck

If you can't cut it, can you fit a weed guard to the prop? it will reduce the performance but may enable you to use the boat.

Talk to the environment agency, they control all waters, they have machines to clear weed, costs, but could you spread the cost, say with anglers?

Is this a large pool or lake? if a pool try dragging the bottom to rip up the weed. Be sure to collect all the cuttings to stop them re-rooting

there are 2 solutions to weed in ponds ( if your allowed to use them)

1) use a black dye so light doesn't get to floor of pond. That's what kew gardens use.

2) starve them out. You need to reduce the nitrogen content of the pond so weeds do not thrive.

( you could try an algicide) but tread carefully I do not advocate any unlawfull act

Not complaining, would love to find an answer as our lake has suffered badly with blanket weed for the last couple of years. My thoughts were some sort of rorary shears but think the weed is too dense to cut.

well yes BUT I figure weed will cause a bigger problem. I don't know if, in model sizes, its possible to cut the weeds. Just throwing up ideas in response to original post.

Sureley any form of disc on the shaft in front of the prop is going to interfere with prop efficiency or am I having a senior moment!

as an afterthought how about a dremel wheel?

Every thing you mentioned happened.
The only time I am able to use my Rc boat is in early spring when they are no weeds.
Thanks

I very much doubt anything exists, it's all to do with power. Boats might be scale, but the weeds aren't, they're full size and often anchored to the lake bed. A decent size model airboat could be used for retrieval by pushing. Model hovercrafts would probably run out of battery power mid way through a rescue.

Hy. I am having a problem with weeds that are tangled around the propeller shaft.

I know, don't go in the weeds is the first thing not to do but sometimes you don't see them.

I search Internet and found a " rope cutter " that is installed around the shaft on a boat and cut the rope that are tangled around the shaft. Would a similar cutter exist for a RC BOAT?
