Silver solder is a high temp solder and requires
red heat I recommend a gas torch.

its also quite expensive and requires different techniques and you HAVE to use a special flux.

if none of that has put you off laughs

That's one source you need people who supply model engineers rather than a "normal" model supplier.

HI Haverlock

Thank you for the information on the silver solder, is it supplied by model shops
or is it a specialised supplier (s) that stock it I have always used standard solder

But can see the great benefits in using different temperature solders for the very reason you have mentioned, I am no stranger to that senario believe me, along with the odd swear word

With regards to polishing I used Brasso but found the fumes off it a bit harsh
and throat catching, I will try the "t" cut

At the risk of teaching to suck eggs etc.

When your working brass heating to red heat and quenching in water anneals.

Silver solder is available in different temperatures so you can build up structures in stages without the previous parts falling off.

ohhhh and "t" cut makes an excellent polish.

If you want actual working vents why not fabricate "mushroom" vents from brass tube and sheet?

Full sized examples here

http://www.chandleryworld.co.uk/catalogue/brass-mushroom-vents_c2303-2.html

as a fabricated item its not a difficult build. Brass tube and sheet are available from a LOT of model supply sites.

Ventilators

HI Haverlock,

"My enquiries have fallen on stoney ground",

I am thinking of making the ventilators myself
as I only require two (2) to assist venting the motor compartment
Your Guidance was not all unfruitful it was interesting, going through the items
that are available, in fact I have taken a note of the site for my next project

Thank you

I posted those websites as examples please don't take it as graven in stone that they are the only ones supplying this kind of material.

HI Haverlock
Thank you for the reply, I have tried numerous suppliers /sites over the last
three weeks, but none in the direction you have given me,

To answer your question why brass the project is a model 30s steam launch which
I have converted to electric power, with a dummy boiler and steam engine compartment which houses the motor.

All fittings are brass and exposed timber is varnished

Once again thank you for your guidance, and I will check these sites out

To say no one makes them would have a flood of replies proving me wrong BUT I think your going to have a lot of trouble finding some.

You may contact

http://www.model-steam-boats.co.uk/index.html

The do very high class fittings in brass.

Failing that why brass are you not going to paint them?

if all else fails you could manufacture your own in copper using metal clay

http://www.kernowcraft.com/jewellery-making-tips/jewellery-making-techniques-product-advice/working-with-art-clay-copper

Another possibility is to use cold casting techniques
http://www.aldaxstore.com.au/

Hope that gives you some ideas

The Problem is now resolved thanks to a suggestion, guidance & time from Havelock
