Sea commander

I don't like to see a thread un finished, so, after a lot of help from Mark and not forgetting Dave 😀 I have decided to go down the brushless road with the same motor as Mark.

HI Alan
I've been using the 775, they are high torque, but they use low amps. There are two types, 15000 rpm. Have a look on Component-shop. Hope this helps.

Thanks again Mark, for your reply.
I have brushless and lipo's in my fast electric boats, I use motors out of drills in my scale boats, but I am a bit lost with this boat as it seems to come in between.
I don't really want to go down the brushless road with it, as you are a man in the know 👍 perhaps you could suggest a brushed motor that takes less amps than the 850 and give an acceptable turn of speed.
No pressure Mark 😀

The mfa 850 is heavy on the amps, a small 4ah battery wont last long, I personaly dont use LiPo's, I use NmHI cells, 6volt 3700mah packs coupled in series for 12 volt. Mine came from component shop but you can get them from many supplyers.

My boat is a 34" Huntsman with a Turnigy 35/42 1000kv outrunner motor. (Goes like stink!!!) it also has a water cooled motor mount

Depends if you want to change the setup you have? the Turnigy will give the power you want but you will need to change your ESC

Thanks for the reply Mark.
Do you think a MFA 850 TORPEDO BRUSHED MOTOR would do with a small lead acid battery or perhaps a three cell Lipo.

HI Alan

The motor, prop combination might be marginal. You might be better with an 800 size motor, but would then need 12 volt batteries.

The set up you have will move the boat but maybe not onto the plane

Hope this helps

I have just been given a Sea Commander that was built in 1958 but never quite finished, it has been very well made and just needs painting and the running gear fitting.
So here is my question, will a Speed 600 9.6 volts motor that I have, fed with 9.6 volt C cells and a 40 mm two bladed prop be enough to get it up on the plain and look the part.
