A sharp tap with a small hammer, not a smack with a large hammer 😀

I am looking at mine as I write this and would not fancy trying to remove the whole side.

If there is fuel in the plywood it might not glue.

Why not try this. Get a piece of ply the same thickness (remove the two uprights as they are only glued in) place the ply on the inside and with a sharp pencil mark the arc above the window and the shape of the window, cut these out and sand until they mirror the original, now cut out the bad piece, sand the edges nice and square with sandpaper on a block. Now place the new piece of ply behind, mark where you have cut, cut the new ply just oversize and sand with a sandpaper block until you get a nice fit. Glue in place with wood glue, clamp a steel rule to the outside of the frame to make sure your new piece is flush, fill the joint with filler and sand until you can't see the joint. Glue the two uprights back in.

A bit of messing but it will make a good repair.

Thanks Alan, I did wonder wether or not to smack it out with a hammer. I've also got delamination of the ply on the port side of the main cabin above the window, going to try and glue it back together as wouldn't want to try and replace the hole side! Or should I replace it??

Having just removed the 4ba prop tube from the Sea Commander that I am currently renovating, this is how I did it.

I removed as much gunge from around the tube on the inside as I could with a Dremel, then using a Stanley knife cut between the skeg and the tube, a sharp tap with a small hammer on the end of the tube (prop end) a twist with a pair of pliers and it was out. The hole then needed enlarging a bit to take the new tube.

I have used this method more than once with success

If you use this method be sure to hit the tube nice and square on the end, otherwise it will just bend the tube.

Good luck

Thanks Colin, I've never done this before so extracting it will be pretty much like brain surgery carried out by a numpty!! I'll wait until the new one arrives then give it a go! Until then I'll get the paint stripper onto the rest of it and see what she looks like!

I removed a prop tube from an old boat that has been fixed in place with araldite.
I did mine by strapping the hull onto my drill table and lining the shaft up using the old prop shaft then drilling out using a drill .5mm smaller than the diameter of the prop tube. Then using a drill the same size as the tube, but turning the chuck by hand. This worked for me, Hope you manage to remove it without too much trouble. Thanks Colin

Sea Commander

Hello folks, I've decided to replace the prop shaft from my Sea Commander and replace it with a new stainless component. However the original shaft and tube is in place clatched in resin! How would going about best removing it without doing any damage the hull? I've considered cutting into the resin with my dremmel. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
