Thanks pmdevlin, nice bit of engineering especially the motor cooler the belt drive would take a fair bit of power from the motor but you wouldn't have to disturb the propshaft alignment when changing motors or pulleys, good photos thanks again.

HI Steve,

ok this is the other way up to what you want, but same principle. I can change the gear ratios to suit where I sail, small lake, then fast acceleration and top speed not important, or big lake and slower acceleration, but bigger top speed. I did a lot of testing with eagle tree data logging, love fiddling testing and messing, then I get bored 😀

Drive train was custom made, but not over difficult once you get started, any questions, juts ask. its brushless now, at first brushed, those are the best pics

electric v drive

Thanks Gents, I will put this project on hold for a while and think about the system whilst doing catchup on my other boats , when I think about it a V drive is not required with an electric motor ,but a parallel drive is a good idea as it puts the motor lower down and reduces the length of the drive and also gear ratios can be varied provided the pulleys can be readily changed
Have a good new year.

HI Steve
You will be able to source what you want from Technobots http://www.technobotsonline.com/pulleys-and-cams.html. They may not have the actual drive unit but certainly sell the pulleys and cogs.
They have a sale on at present so should help ease the cost.

Should have added, SHG web site shows all details

MFA only do toothed belt for the 800 series now. SHG models do the components, ie, toothed pullies and belts. Don't email them, they don't usually reply. Ring them.

HI Steve, I think the drive you are talking about is the Robbe Navy but this is not V drive it is a toothed belt drive. May not be available anymore since Robbe have gone bust, try the MFA website, they do many different drives and ratios.

I can't find it on their current site, that is why I suggested giving them a ring.

Hi,
Cornwall Model Boats used to do them so it might be worth having a chat with them - not email, give them a call.

HI Guys,

I have seen pictures of a v drive system, motor under shaft and reduction gearing mounted on engine mounting bracket with NAVY in the title. Can anyone enlighten me as to who makes it and where I can get one,
I am also looking for 2 schottel drives ,
Thanks for reading.
