Impressive. I have two of these units for my Shannon lifeboat. I do believe I will be using a 400Kv motor to keep within the max revs of the unit.

I have upgrade my Palm Beach to run BL

That should improve matters. The LiPo will provide lots of power and at so much less weight. From the video I saw its a nippy boat and fitting a brushless may make life interesting as the weight will be much less and your controls will be ultra sensitive especially if you turn at full speed.

Ta Dave, Found a 700 turbo as against BB which shows slightly higher revs, in my stock. Going to test that in the meantime. But yes I have 3cell lipo's which means adding weight to get the jet in the water, and esc's. I'll measure mounting holes and start looking at brushless.

Just looked on U-tube to see what this model looks like.
As a fast speed boat it would really perform best with a brushless and LiPo. As you already have brushless ESCs this would seem to be your best option.
If you are not using LiPos at present then you could use NiMhs whilst you experiment.
You will not need a massive brushless motor. I don't know the exact size but a 35xx type may be suitable with a kv about the 1000 mark with your 12v battery. The prop is probably a two blade racing type which will be far to big for a brushless. Change to a smaller version so the motor is not overloaded. if you have or can borrow a watt/ampmeter you can measure the current and make sure it is below your motor and ESC max rating by testing whilst holding the boat prop in the water.
Due to the high revs you do need to make sure your motor and shaft are well aligned and that the motor is very securely mounted. I speak from experience.

Oops I was trying a search with a question but posted instead. Seeing as I'm here, I have an old Billings Palm beach jet boat. it currently has a 700 BB turbo 9.6v fitted. Currently runs on 12v, would like to try 14.4 or 16.8 but can't find a speed controller to suit without spending a lot of money on an experiment. Or I could go brushless, I have plenty of large controllers for those. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks
