Which paint

Howdy!
Minwax makes a product called "Prestain" for woodworking. it also works good as a primer.

On the same subject can anyone offer any advice on the best primer to use for wooden hull construction?

Model Master makes a very good acrylic that airbrushes easily right from the jar, and I have had very good results on a variety of mediums.

sorry I did not make myself clear I was recommending Halfords primer not colour sprays

airbrushing gives a light covering of a base colour then washes etc. to bring out details plus dry brushing to highlight details.

You will need to carefully wash the white metal fittings after you have removed all the flashing. I did not get good results with acrylic and I was using special primer as used by the war gamers, so used matt enamel. it is very easy to obscure the detail when painting so use thinned paint and apply several light coats of paint.
If I use acrylic spray cans I source mine from Nantwich Market www.arnagemotorcare.co.uk. 50% cheaper than the big car place.

its best to use a primer ( spray can from Halfords ) after that has dried its dealers choice.
Acrylics are cheap and dry quickly have a look at some of the guys paintings of figures used in table top gaming.

Enamels may be harder wearing.
