Good evening,
My computer skills are not good at 80 yeas of age.
I have only today found your comments about my model od the Dido class cruiser HMS Euryalus. If you would like a copy of the article that was in Model Boats in 2017 send me an e-mail and I will gladly scan and send you a copy. My e-mail address is
Send an e-mail as my skills finding my way around this website are limited.
Take care,

Just checking in

Hi Peter!! Just checking in with you, see how you’re doing. Haven’t heard much at all from the usual gang, you, Nerys, Doug, etc. Just want to see if you’re doing well. Give me a holler sometime.

Hi SLEC do the kits for this model so presumably own the copyright for the plans. Mayhem have details of the Sportsman including pics of all the parts that should help you identify what you have.

Hi Peter

Ours isn't as bad as that as it takes two cartridges and a lot less pricy but bad enough. Amazed it's kept going so long. I've got a Canon photo printer as well but that doesn't get much use. Sadly the scanner is only A4.

Ian certainly makes a nice job of the drawings. It really is a labour of love for him along with all the other stuff. I know what you mean about the file size because of all the "noise". When I'm using a PDF in Visio I often can't save my work as I go along, which is nerveracking, as it's too big to save.

Can you remind me of yours/Ian's web-site for the plans. I have trouble finding it via Google.

What's the copyright situation with Lesro? I did read about it somewhere but can't find it again now?

Eraser/Michael has been in touch but hasn't given me the costs yet. We'll get there!

Chris

Edit: Plan is in the post and has waived the cost if I make a donation to Model Boats which I've said I'll do.

I've got to build one now as he's asked to see the finished model! No problem though as it will be a much quicker build than my Faireys as I can paint the deck and far less detailing.

Hi Peter

I do have an A4 scanner but I'll have the whole drawing scanned at a company I've used before for boat drawings and used to use for architectural drawings and I'll send the PDF to Ian.

What is really useful is an HP A3 printer which I use for my Fairey drawings. Even the Swordsman keel only needs 3 sheets taping together. The ink is very expensive though, fortunately I don't use too much nowadays unlike when my wife was teaching and used to print out loads of worksheets etc.

Be interesting to see yours and Ian's work on the drawing. Haven't heard back from Eraser yet re. costs but I'll send him my address.

Not really my usual type of boat really either, well for my builds, as I like something more scale like (though I do have some plastic RTR race boats and yachts - otherwise I'd never have anything on the water! - but it's good being involved in seeing some drawings saved and improved.

Hi Peter

He doesn't want to sell but has offered the other option which I was going to suggest of sending me the drawing, me getting it scanned and then returning the drawing if I pay for the envelope and postage.

I've agreed to that and once I've got it scanned I'll send you a copy by email.

Hi Peter

I might build one at some point as it is a quick and easy build and I'd be less precious about it than my Faireys! Easy enough to draw up but would be even easier with the kit drawings - I'll see how much he wants for them.

I see your name now and again on other forums.

Hi Peter

Good that your sister could get over to see you. Bit frustrating that you need to take the tug apart before you can move forward with it. We're hoping to do some travelling again after 2 years.

At least you got a response. I didn't think he'd go for the scan idea, doubt he'd want to go to a commercial printers/either. Best shot is as you've suggested or at least buy it off him. Would be a pity to miss the opportunity. If he's willing to sell I could deal with that as I'm guessing he'd want cash, and then send to Ian. Does he scan them and redraw?

No progress on the Faun yet, I thought I'd better get on with the others first and get at least one on the water! Concentrating on the Huntress with the stern-drive as that is different to the usual Faireys.

Hi

I said it would be easy to draw up the parts but it just seemed to pass them by! Some folks just don't want to do anything and want it handing to them on a plate! Those drawings are just the job for producing the bulkheads etc. and are the first ones they've seen, I thought that they'd be overjoyed, but no!

I nearly asked Eraser if he wanted to sell them as looking at the state of the kitchen didn't think he'd be in a position to get them scanned? In any case I've really got enough on my plate with my builds etc. at the moment.

Will be interesting to see how you get on.

Cheers, Chris

Hi Peter, so good to hear from you. Christmas here was very quiet we had no family over due to the spread of the Virus my Daughter and husband had it so did the grandkids but all fine now. Yes I will start to make the models now as they are building up in the loft. In what way has the site changed Peter with not being on. How are you away and your good wife.

I like the idea of a lip and bolt, will give that serious thought. I THINK I’ll be okay cg wise, there’s a lot of hull under the water line, but I’ll give her a good rocking on the maiden see how she reacts. If there a problem I’ll move things around. The sound card, receiver and battery maybe weigh 4 ozs all told, and everything save the sound card is pretty low in the superstructure, so hopefully we’ll be okay.
Peter, thanks for the idea and heads up. Keep me out of trouble you do!!

Hi Peter, hope this finds you and yours well. I want to thank you for your comments on my builds, especially the Grimmershorn…it’s coming along finally, but the work has been…wait for it..a little grim😂🤣
What I’ve learned from both the Felix I built a few years ago and tHe Grimm is that Krick makes a nice product, but not quite up there with the best of Robbe and Graupner from say, the eighties on to before they went bust. I put them alongside Billings but with better instructions and plans. Some of this is on me, sometimes I have skills sometimes I don’t.
Anyway, let me know how you’re doing, please stay safe, the new Covid variant seems to have milder symptoms and effects but is much easier to catch.
Take care and have fun!!

Thank you Peter for sending me that article. That was the last race with barges still working competing. I was there! followed it on motor barge Nellie which I later commanded.
Barge racing started again a few years later for privately owned barges and has been very successful with about eight races a year, though for obvious reasons there have only been three this year. Most of the barging centres organise a race, Maldon, PinMill, Ipswich, Swale etc. I was on the committee of the Swale Match for a number of years when I lived there.
Very sorry that you are leaving the site as I am for the others. I think it is a great loss, so many of those leaving in my opinion held the site together. Even the great controversial one did an awful lot to keep things moving even if one didn't always agree with him and he was a great source of information.
The site has deteriorated in content badly since this rumpus started, but to me, as I cannot get around or do anything like what I could even a couple of years ago, I shall soldier (should that be sailor) on in the hopes that somehow there will be a revival.
As a matter of interest, are those leaving, joining another group?

Best wishes,
Nerys

Hi Peter,

Sorry for being tardy, but I'm a really busy person at the moment. I didn't take offense to your post, I read it as you probably meant it to sound and I agree that one doesn't want to take on many smooth chine laser projects unless the hull is strip planked.

I love your models and I'd like to talk more about them, but I have a fully booked week trying to get projects finished for our club. Please put up with my slow responses because model making is only a hobby at present and I'm very busy with other projects.

As you say, buildings are better and that's what I try to stick with. Having said that, I do get carried away from time to time and here's a little project with 450 bits. It's only 8 inches long and 6 inches wide. All 1.5mm ply. I left it unpainted because I could have purchased a Tonka Toy for a quarter of the cost and 100 hours less effort.

I'll be in touch shortly, but don't be shy in sending pics of your work. I find them very refreshing.

Regards

John

Kind of had that suspicion, I’m a little like him, very opinionated (ask my wife and daughter 🤣) but for the most part I know how to keep it in check. You might be right, he might occasionally be getting more of his rum ration than needed🤔
Let’s hope this gets settled quickly and without further drama, hate to see this happen.
#209
Peter, I haven’t been on in a few days, I’ve always been a little hit and miss here. Can you tell me just what the !!??!! happened? I hate to see members leave, I would think we could settle all this like adults, but I don’t know what was said or by whom. You don’t have to tell me particulars, and I’ll respect that decision, but I’d really like to get the gist of it.
Like Bones would say, “Dammit, Jim!!”😊

Hi Peter.

I just thought i would let you know that Myself and Bill (Scratchbuilder) are thinking about leaving the site.
It seems that a curtain Moderator is allowed to make inappropriate comments on the site and nothing is done about it.
When we reported this to Stephen (Fireboat) Site Founder/owner he said he has not got time to sort it out and if this continues he will ban all the Moderators from the site.

The same Moderator continued making inappropriate comments, again this was reported by Bill and myself.

So now Stephen said that he don’t need Moderators anymore so he will do away with them altogether.

He has now done so.

So it seems that the rest of the Moderating team is now being punished because of one person.
And that the person who made the comments is getting away with it.

Martin.
If it looks right it probably is.
#205
Hi Peter.
Hope you are well.
Thank you so much for your kind offer and I may well take you up on it.
I will give you below my email address because both Martin and I are on the verge of leaving the site because of the way we as moderators are being treated as a result of challenging Doug over his rude and antagonistic comments to members on our site.
Doug is a trouble maker but seems untouchable.
Such a shame that Martin and I seem to be trying to do the right thing and Doug just carries on upsetting people.

My email address is williambolt1@btinternet.com

Perhaps you could forward yours just in case.
Kind regards Bill

Hi Peter. Man, that is a generous offer and I do appreciate it, but for the time being I want to see if I can fix this myself. Evergreen makes T strips in different sizes, the 2mm is about right, so I think I’m going that route. If I’m successful, I will have learned a new technique, if not, ten will go the route you suggested. I’ll send you a pic of how bad this looks. Got in a hurry with the wrong adhesive and then tried to cover it up. Like we use to say in the USAF, I “screwed the pooch”🤣🤣
Thank you for your offer Peter, I truly appreciate it!

Hi Peter,

I have never been a fan of model boat mayhem website.
I looked at it some years ago and was surprised at the amount of back stabbing and nasty comments.

I find it very strange how we all like this hobby and yet there is so much bad feelings and comments even in clubs
There is always the one that knows it all and the one that thinks he is the boss.
It is crazy how we share information, knowledge, photos, and the way we keep each other motivated then one simple little comment taken the wrong way can start so much trouble.
Now you have got me going now LOL!!

Martin.
If it looks right it probably is.
#201
Hi Peter,
Unfortunately i do not have access to members private Email addresses.

As Moderators we are limited to things that Stephen allow us to use, It is a little strange as we can actually ban someone from the site.

I will mention about limiting the amount of photos but i will not say who asked unless you want me to.

Thank's also for your comment.

Martin.
If it looks right it probably is.
#200
Hi Peter,

I do try to keep the peace.

Some times i wonder why i bother as i notify Stephen of things that require his attention but half the time he don't even look at it.
I find i have to remind him time and time again.
There are supposed to be 6 of us on the Admin/Moderator team but it seems that i am the only one doing the job.

I am starting to get fed up with it.

Still moan over.

Stay safe.

Martin.
If it looks right it probably is.

Hi Peter,

He is not very forth coming with the payments.
I can see me and him falling out soon, i am trying to do his build even though i am recovering from key hole surgery.

Martin.
If it looks right it probably is.
#198
Hi Peter,
I cannot remember what other site he was on.
I just remember seeing his post and thinking that is T33CNO.

Yes i did see his reply.
I hope this dose not spark off a bit of an argument about who pays and who dose not.

If it dose i will have to step in and possibly delete the thread or maybe leave it to our new Moderator Bill (Scratch builder)LOL!!!

I like that expression a pain in the brass LOL!!

As for the guy i am building this for i have asked for stage payments.

Martin.
If it looks right it probably is.

Hi Peter,
Thank's for the warning, i had seen him on another site.
I did not realise he could be a trouble maker i just thought he was just a point/rank grabber.

Thanks I am building this boat for someone else.
When i agreed to make it for him i did explain that i had a few medical problems that i have to deal with so i would not be able to work on it full time.

I am recovering from surgery that i had done on Saturday so have not done anything on his boat.

He is already getting funny about it.
I think he is the type a guy that wants everything done yesterday.
I have got this feeling i should not of said i would build it for him.

Martin.
If it looks right it probably is.

Hi Peter,
I have just seen your post on Pseudonyms and i have also noticed this,

There are quite a few that post on other sites.

I admit i post the same thing on a different website so that a certain person can read it.
I have told him many times to read it on this site but for some reason he don't.
I still post as martin but without the 555.

In confidence Doug is being a real problem at the moment with his being over the top and rude to others to the point of making me want to leave the site, but that’s another story.

well being?

Hi red,

Well I never thought agreeing with you would create such an avalanche of I'm right, you're wrong.
Your original post was well in line with what Alice and I think. The whole thing stinks and I am convinced that governments are taking advantage of the situation to learn how best to control the population. A certain person is seeing things through rose coloured spectacles, I never thought he was so wedded to the establishment. Having three four hour sessions in hospital a week, I have seen and heard things. People dying of renal failure and other things, all being labelled 'cause of death' covid. One nurse was taken off duty for a month because her 9 year old daughter was erroneously diagnosed with covid as well as her husband not being able to go to work.
Anyway, hopefully the flak will stop flying now and we can get back to talking boats.

All the best, Nerys
covid. All to fiddle the figures upwards.

Hello Peter, so sorry to hear about your friend who moved closer to be with you. My deepest condolences

Did you manage to find a other home in the same area or have you moved out of South Africa now....

Time is a great healer but it still hurts just don't have the concentration to build any models at the moment. My wife Sue has been so supportive and tried with the Robbe jetski model to get me motivated, the model looks like it's never seen water as there is no sediment in the cooling pipes too the ESC or any sign on the props or z drives.

Hope your feeling better and your wife is well. Did you manage to get the Magazine of your Sister.

Take care and stay safe
