My small motors are all 3-volt. But the speed control is a 6volt. These two are not compatible and I am not one to make my own speed control.
Looks more likely to work than the micro-tug
Identifying a hull
I should be getting a front and rear photo from the Parent shortly that I will post too.

I will ee what CMB comes back with. I can't order now with no postal service. Unfortunately, no decent model shops left in JHB. Normally use Aerial Concepts but he is really into Jets and Helis but OK for Adhesives and tools
Sea Queen
It is not the actual decking I am looking for I have these. An optional extra is to plank it which I would like to do. Thanks anyway for the offer
Tell me about it!
Was getting so bad with me I had to start a 'Model Log' in Excel to keep track😐
Last count was 69 from 1:600 to 1:35. Plus a mammoth 1:24 DH Mossie😮
A clear case of SABLE -
Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy.
Gotta go now, off to Gisela's for dinner😋
CU later
Cheers, Doug 😎
"Model wise live off all the items stocked up when still being a wage earner"
I'm doing much the same. I bought major items; such as large kits, Deans Manxman, Engel Akula 2 with dive tank etc , mini lathe and milling machine etc with my last profit sharing bonus from the old company.
No way I could afford that now, although the two investment funds I started 20 years ago did rather better than I expected. One was used for new car and holidays when I retired.
The other is still just about ticking over! But that's my emergency reserve😉
My Modellwerft subscription is a 'running' Christmas present from Gisela😊
Doug 😎
With Dad's old Sea Scout that'll make three such restoration / conversion jobs. Enough for me!
I want to get back to my 'electrickery' (as Martin - 'Westquay' calls it) for special functions on my warships and tug.
What are you up to at the moment?
Cheers, Doug 😎
I was aware of his altruistic motive.
Highly laudable.👍
I had begun to suspect that you might be one of his sources,
or vice versa sometimes.😉
All the best, Doug 😎
PS I don't get paid for trying to keep 'you lot' under control either😉😁 or helping Stephen with de-bugging.
Nor does Stephen for creating and maintaining the site.
Yes it is plywood. I've sealed the hull with Ezekote before priming.
I'll seal the inside as well when I've cleared it out and arranged various mounting points.
Yes I know Dodgy's sites. All very simplified 'stand off', as originally intended so nothing wrong with that. Not sure I approve of his philosophy of 'piggybacking' for free off service providers though. Sounds parasitical to me.
I've modified various Taycols myself, some for site members, for Forward / Reverse operation with a standard brushed ESC. Before I noticed his site!
The MRB plan sounds interesting👍 many thanks in advance😊
Like I said 'No rush'🤔 the 'workshop plate' is pretty full already!
Time on my hands? Wish it was, I'd scrape it off into a jar and save it for later use😉
Cheers, Doug 😎
Plan was apparently the ezebilt version.
But the deck fittings on that plan are pretty basic!
I now have a superb kit, from a good Czech firm, for the 37mm gun and some 50 cal twin MGs from Shapeways. They're a tick smaller than the gun tubs though🤔
Looks like a superstructure rebuild is on the agenda!
Cheers, Doug 😎
Many thanks for your kind offer👍
"which kit are you refurbishing ?"
Good question! The boat is approx 1/35. I bought from a guy on the MB site a while ago.
He had scratch built it to what might have been an old Aerokit plan plus some detail info from the USN Bureau of Ships.
Which / whose plans do you have?
It's mainly shaft & rudder positions and deck and fittings detail I'm interested in.
Pics attached of 'as bought' and current 'on hold' state😉
Had to completely strip the hull and fix some original build mistakes!☹️
It's now primed and waiting for the new shaft and motor mounts.
I intend to rebuild it as PT109, complete with 37mm deck gun, 3 motors as per original and green Pacific cammo paint job😊
Cheers, Doug

I am not sure when I can get to the post office, but hopefully sometime next week if this Virus situation does not get any worse.

I also still have my Radio Shack/Archer butane torch I bought in the early 80s to solder up some things on ukie airplanes and slot cars. Used prefilled butane bulbs. Still have the torch, butane cylinders are obsolete..

Seems like I have thrown away any plans or drawings. Yes I did finish the RTTL boat but I stopped the build blog. I was only going for promotion and I was demoted like everybody else - I was a Captain before!
I could take some pictures for you if that helps. Anything specific?

And thank you..

Still waiting to get hold of some quart cans of dope from the aircraft supplies co (full sized) for the plane covering. I inquired around Nov last year but they are still waiting for US stock to arrive, (maybe the end of this month,- or so they say😐) Might end up having to Solarfilm it instead of using the SIG polyester covering cloth. Thanks for the offer of the plans but at this stage I don't think I'll be starting anything new in the near future. Have to concentrate on getting rid of a number of planes and full sized boats, as things are getting a bit too crowded and costing too much to maintain while not using them much.
I think with the Corona virus things are going to get expensive here and everything's going to get stupid. Dopey PM's stopping gatherings of more than 300 people, REALLY??? so no more shows, netball games (NZ and Aus just played without an audience?)Rugby games, concerts events etc, but still letting people into the country. My neighbor's just come back from 2 weeks in Japan ( plane probably full of Asians as usual) with a few mates and not bothering to isolate himself (has a wife and 3 kids who didn't go) Can't understand allowing 300 people to gather?? That woman it as thick as a plank, it should be all or nothing to be of any use!
If we get it badly here it will just about destroy NZ as we don't have the facilities to cope and there ain't that many of us here😁. Bit of a worry being in the oldies bracket, but I can always get in my boat and camp out on one of our many islands should it get like the Black Plague😂 Hope you guys don't get it over there as it would probably spread like wildfire through the indigenous population I would imagine. Buy a few boxes of surgical masks, a truck load of Vitamin C and take care👍
Regards John.

I'm not so sure that it wasn't a mistake on the poster's part though.
I can't recall seeing anything I would have recognised as sensitive and out of place in that sense. Can't recall such a crossover ever happening before either.i
All the best, Doug
Could have been an open post, as it ended up😮
Cheers, Doug 😎
Yes I had noticed those.
The one in the planking thread seems to have disappeared.
Maybe the poster realised his mistake.
Maybe Ron just got mixed up with his Tug question post.
He's not particularly 'digitally minded'.
I've had to help him out a few times with posting photos, videos etc.
Cheers, Doug 😎
I've been doing some digging to look into the issues you're raising.
The PM issue worried me at first, but I don't see any PM's sent to you in the database. I guess you mean Ron's post "Is the tugboat about 18” length like the small Carol Moran?" ? This post wasn't sent as a PM, it was a normal forum reply.
The Alternative Deck Planking post I've moved into the grease thread. I can only assume it was posted there in error.
Thanks,
Stephen
Have you got the items yet? I wanted to confirm that they were as expected and functional....
Not so good I'm afraid🤔
50 years of smoking getting revenge COPD and arterial problems in the legs.
Makes me get tired quickly so not getting much more than essentials done.
Think I need some warm SA weather. I hate winter ❄️😠
I'm a bit worried about Nerys too.
Sent her a PM a week or so ago but got no reply, although I've seen her pop up on the site a few times. She used to be so active, now I'm worried that she's hospital bound.
Glad you liked our little exchanges.😊
Trust that you and SWMBO are both well and busy.
Look forward to your next creation👍
Cheers, Doug 😎
Pleased I could help. I haven't spoken to Gordon about your request for help but he did tell me about 6 months ago that his fancy 3d printer was bought for the main reason of providing boat and other stuff on request. The jet drive I saw that he made was magnificent...I built my own for my "Spioenkop" SA frigate.
GMBC uses the main Emmerentia dam but is having problems with vagrants and invasions by the canoeing crowd and the chain closing off the area has been nicked...again.
I haven't been to club sails for about 6 months now as I am battling a bit with chemo therapy for pancreatic cancer that knocks me a bit flat every 2 weeks.
Cheers

I am sending you a private message as I don't think it is right that we broadcast names and tele numbers on the web.
The guy that I have used in Joburg is Gordon Donaldson at email gdonaldson@cbi-electric.com work or gordon.donaldson1960@gmail.com home.
He did the CAD drawing for me after I sent him some pics of what I wanted together with the actual size of the item and he did the rest. I actually saw a jet drive that he had made when I visited him...brilliant!!
His cell # is 079 494 9590.
Good luck! Let me know how you get on.
Cheers

I am not sure how Your sister wants to pay - If she wants to send a postal order I can provide an address...
Just been busy with necessary maintenance on the house and trying to get back to a normal schedule for a while, as all this staying up till 5 or 6AM was getting a bit silly (being 12hrs ahead and trying to communicate in real time). Last 3 days I've been painting the roof and I've only got around 1/4 of the way so far.
I have zincalume T-span/ T-rib roofing which is a pain to paint as no one makes a roller for it. There is a crowd in US which makes a special roller system on wheels (only one I've been able to find world wide so far) but they won't sell to NZ (plus it's expensive). I've tried making double 45deg rollers which work about 90% but most of this material is airless sprayed because of the shape.
Problem is I can't really afford to pay around $1000 for someone to spray it and I've already spent almost $700 on paint (needed expensive metal primer as I'm only .5km fom the sea) so it's a matter of getting up there and getting the job done. Luckily it's a flat roof and only around 100sqm (x 3 coats)☹️ but it's taking a while having to do it with a 100mm roller😁 Doesn't help having arthritis, knackered back etc but I need the exercise after winter😂
Still waiting for bits for more smoke trials to come from the land of rice but I think they are rowing here. Already had 1 order go missing lately after arriving here!😠, as previously mentioned our postal service has turned to crap!
You have probably heard about White Island erupting 2 days ago and killing and severely burning most of the tourists on it at the time, (8 bodies still there they can't get to yet) so that's been a bit of a downer just before Xmas and terrible for all the families (think about 8 countries with a few whole families involved) Not having much luck with all the disasters and unfortunate happenings here lately! ( a number involving tourists)
Regards John
The boats I have at the moment are ones I have rebuilt ( I was given 2 of them in rough condition (Pelin Nomad 12ft gull wing ply dinghy and a 70s John Chapple,-NZ- "Cherokee' 12ft racing dinghy,) and the other (1953 'Sharon Potts' 15ft day sailer designed by Edson I Schock, USA) I bought from our local Trade Me site in very average condition.
I spent a year rebuilding the Schock 15, stripped inside and out repaired, centerboard, rudder repaired glassed, new mahogany rudder stock, deck glassed, re rigged etc. Probably the only one in NZ, built south of Auckland around 1986 from a 1953 book, 'How to build small boats' by Edson Schock (who was a US Naval architect). Has a rig about the size of an Olympic 470 and sails very well in lighter winds and quite fast as well, (non planing hull).
The Cherokee I rebuilt in about 4 months and I just had the hull, sail and split rudder and c/board. Had to fix rot strip the hull (including digging the old filler from around 300+ nails) fair the hull, repair the deck (mast had dropped at some stage and busted the deck frame) repair c/board, rudder, rudder stock etc and then f/glass the entire hull. Also had to make a new rotating mast and base (has a mast setup like an OK or Finn and was designed as a trainer for those 2) Originally had a wooden mast but I had to use a modified 14ft cat mast. Not as bendy as it should be, but still sails really well and super responsive on the water and fast, (very light,-3/16 ply).
3rd boat is the NZ Frank Pelin designed, 70s, 12ft 'Nomad' dinghy which a guy at work gave me. It was also pretty rough but I gave it good thrashing with glass cloth here and there. re modeled the seats, added extra side 'knees' to stiffen it, repaired a few rotten stringers etc, and it is now a very stable useful fishing and thrashing about dinghy. I bought a new 15HP 'Sail' brand 2 stroke o/b (copy of a 78-96 Yamaha) which I've now had for round 4yrs and still goes well and doesn't miss a beat. Done a few 25km runs with it and never had a problem. Does 26mph and is super economical.
I almost bought a GP14 which was advertised here (probably imported from UK by immigrants as they were never a class here) but I bought the Schock instead, (probably would have been better off with the GP14 as it was in better nic). Had an 'A' Class cat in the 80s which I also restored, and in the 70s I built a 15ft delta hulled racer with a 75hp Scott/Mculloch 'Flying Scott' o/b which was capable of 50mph. Also had a Hartley 20ft cabin boat with a MKIII Zodiac motor in the 80s. These days the arthritis is setting in and it's getting harder to get out in the yachts, as the grip's not as good (carpal tunnel op a few yrs back,-had to stop riding bikes as well).
Restored a 1983 Suzuki GR650 about 11yrs ago but found after a few yrs my hands were starting to go numb and hurt after 15mins or so, and was having to stop till they came right hence the carpal tunnel op). Sold it about 3 yrs ago to a guy in Wellington. I'm 66 so I've probably got lots more stuff to go wrong yet, but I try not to let anything bother me.😁
John
The world is pretty much knackered and future generations are going to suffer from pollution related diseases. The American farmers, (and others) are breeding seedless fruit and infertile grains etc. Just needs something to go wrong with the growing stock and we'll all starve. Just look at the China fruit industry,-by spraying everything with chemicals they've killed most of their bees so they have to buy pollen and pollinate trees by hand with tiny paint brushes.
Never mind, we're moving 1/16 inch closer to the sun every so many years, so we are all going to cook anyhow eventually! (if anyones still alive by then!) But cheer up, we're not going to be around to worry about it. In the meantime I have 3 boats in case of sea level rise!😊

Neat 👍 So you have until 2nd November to get 'em to Berlin huh?😉

I have something very similar from my old department before retiring; Rohde & Schwarz Naval Communications. Mine is shield shape not rectangular.
