Fireboat Funday 2010 - Given Go Ahead!
A superb day was had by all and a special thanks goes to Pete for organising the event.
It was good to see quite a few new people as well as the regular old faces.
Many superb boats were on view at this years event and many people travelled great distrances to attend this Funday.
Congratulations to the winners of the steering competition and a special congratulations goes to our very own Mike Gunn who won the best boat on the day on his very first visit to the Fireboat day.
Gray & Marie
PS. Next year don't park your Fireboat half a mile down the lake Stephen 😀
Fireboat Funday 2010 - Given Go Ahead!
Once again we had a terrific day courtesy of the King Lear Model Boat clubs water, the venue was a superb setting, with a concrete jetty to launch from and a nice high grass bank with some seating from which those who ventured to take part in the have a go steering comp could stand and take full advantage of the view across the course.
I was privileged to meet quite a few new people to the event, not only from the host club but others I have made contact through this website, also it was very nice to have the Development Officer and his wife visit the event and have a chat, the ranger in charge Dale also did us proud with some extra mesh netting to keep non eventers away from the models.
The steering comp was again going to be a battle, in 3rd place was David Baker, in 2nd place was ? Ellis, in 1st place was ? Ellis, the identity of these two will remain anonymous to avoid further embarrassment, but I will only add that one of them has now got a 3rd, 2nd, 1st place trophy set and the other hasn't!!!!!!!, a couple who were visiting the area for the day were asked to judge which boat they liked best on display, this medal was taken by a host club member Mike Gunn, very well done indeed, and lastly a Special Award medal went to Marie and Graham from the organiser as a gesture of thanks for saving the event from cancellation.
Thank you to all who attended, those who came for the first time, thanks to L.C.C Ranger (Dale) and the King Lear club, the weather was absolutely superb as was the venue, we will monitor the weed problem over in Burton again next year, if it looks doubtful then we know where the event will take place, watch this space carefully.
Those who did not manage to make it you missed a great event, we look forward to seeing many of you in 2011.
Regards to you all, Pete D, organiser.

glad I happened to have a spare coupling in my bitz box!
it is worth mentioning that the 3rd place steering competion trophy now takes pride of place on my mantlepiece.. also here in the North West... (despite me not having a clue what I was doing)
I can still hear the words of a certain "organising PETE person" telling everyone....
he was going to win it this year.... 😀

Many thanks to the Kings Lear model boat club and Pete Dimberline for bringing all the gear and rescue boat! Which came in particularly handy for anyone who got their boats stuck 2 miles out in the lake after testing the range.... whoops 😑 😀
It was great to see so many of you there though, I always look forward to this event and am pleased it was another great success!
Stephen 😊
Ps. Dave, I forgot about the coupling! I'll be sure to send a new one your way as soon as possible! You certainly saved the day with that 😛

With regard to the Fireboat Funday, we hope the rustle up some paste tables to put the smaller boats on but can't guarantee that there will be heavy duty stands to put your boats on.
If you've got any stands or tables you wish to bring for your own use then please feel free to do so.
Regards,
Marie

Fireboat Funday 2010 - Given Go Ahead!
When told this, I thought it was ridiculous, but on a recent visit, there where no weeds!, when other very near lakes where almost unusable for model boats.
I know the truth though Pete, you dont want to take on the steering course champion! ha ha 😀

HI Everyone.
Fireboat Funday 2010. URGENT MESSAGE.
It Is with great regret that I have to Inform you the 2010 event Is being cancelled due to a severe weed problem, Inspections this week have shown that the weed problem experienced by the club last year Is becoming an even bigger problem this year, probably due to a low water level and good weather? leading to the club having to cancel several events before the problem gets worse, we have been actively trying to find a solution with the local council and the angling club, chemical treatment has been ruled out due to the site being a nature reserve.
We have many visitors from far and wide who love to come to the event and I can only thank you for the support you have shown to us over the previous years, we are actively pursuing another venue but sadly this and some other alternative venues will not be viable for this year, we do not wish to have our friends and visitors travel large distances to have a superb water (that looks like a green carpet In many areas at the moment) with no proposition of you safely having a good clear area to run your models.
One of my compatriots has been to the water this morning (6th) and said that there Is large areas looking clear? In the middle of the lake, but getting a model out to the area to run would be virtually Impossible at this moment In time, the prevailing wind Is also creating another problem In that any weed breaking off Is blowing up the lake Into the area we normally use for the event which would lead to fouled props and possible electrical problems for many.
Keep looking at this site, we will have a complete rethink for 2011, Fireboat Funday will be back next year.
Sincere Regards to everyone, Pete and the Burton Model Boat club.
