Welcome aboard! I see you are getting the measure of it!
To filter your notifications go to your Account and click on 'Notification settings# (surprise!). There you can select what you want and deselect the rest. You can kill the foghorn by clicking on 'Toggle sound' in the top right hand corner.
Personally I like it! Means I can get on with something else and the PC will 'Honk' to alert me when something comes in 😉

Welcome to the site.
New members are usually welcomed by the members when they start posting and as a free site we do not have a large admin resource.
Regarding the notifications this is something you can control from your PC settings. I suspect at present they are set to receive a notification whenever a post is made to the site. You can change this to just advise you of topics of interest which should help restore harmony with your wife.
