Outrunner brushless generally work better in boats.
I see you intend to use LiPo's so suggest you also buy a wattmeter from GC. This will help you select the correct prop for your chosen motor so that you do not exceed the Max watts on the motor and the current (C) rating on the LiPo. A good balanced Lipo charger is really necessary as unbalanced cells easily damage if over discharged. Good luck and please keep us posted on your progress. Dave

I did this earlier this year. I put a 480 7.2 graupner in with a 2200 mah 4/5 SC 7.2V MiNh race pack. Goes like the clappers ( far to fast really ). in reto, I wish I had bought a Kingston hull and plan as the Deans marine boat is OK but small and this boat is not difficult.

they do a race 400 that will do fine a 500 is to heavy, go brush less that is about the same Price but a bit faster, but remember you can put to much power in a small boat I did with mine . and have reduced the power, look in the boat blogs and you will see mine built of a deans hull, have you bought it yet ?

HI all,

I am looking to get one of these kits as a starter, maybe going for a larger Kingston mouldings hull later.

The recommended motor appears to be 400 size which seems a bit small - will the 500 size be better, I am aiming to use 7.4v Lipos to keep the weight down.

Any comments or experience from anyone who has build the Deans one appreciated.

Oh and Is the hull black or dark blue?
