Hi Alan, I trust you are well, have been trying to find the paints for the lifeboat, but can't seem to find anyone with them all in stock, firstly where did you get yours, and secondly what did you use?

Thanks

Brilliant, many thanks. I will probably have it on a servo so it will raise and lower.

Thanks that would be appreciated. Did you have the radar arch raise and lower? I did have a sketch but when we moved it seems to have got lost.

Thanks again

Hi Alan,
Sorry not replied sooner, I have been busy helping my son with convertions to his house. As for the tamar not a lot happening at the moment, I did have to alter parts no. 58 and 59 to make the cabin fit over the deck. The problem I had was getting the cab to fit snuggly to the deck but still have tiny 1/2mm gaps so I will fit a thin skirting board all around to make a nicer fit.I did cut out the y boat compartment before fitting the deck but decided to move it back toward the stern to give a better scale appearance. it would appear that you have almost caught up with my build and I will be asking your advice. The only other thing I have done is to start building the rails, if you look at the pictures of the real boat you will see that the gates on the model are the wrong way round and are not very scale looking , so I have made new gates and started fitting the railings using 1/32 brass rivets to locate the rail bases so that when all the bits are glued together I can fettle and paint them and after the deck is painted pin and glue in place.

Hope this has been some help,I will press on with the build.

Hi Alan.
Yes I did have problems with the roof panels and also with the front windows, ended up adding strips from the scrap and refitting. One good thing about plasticard is you can glue pieces together very easily. All I can say is dry fit the panels together with tape and make sure everything lines up before glueing. I don't know if you are aware, but plasticard shavings melted in a jar with solvent glue makes an excellent filler!

Hi Alan,
Sorry I didn't reply sooner, been away for afew days.
Yes my props are about 6mm under the hull so that should be fine, I am using speed 600 motors with seperate speed controllers and 9.6 ni mh batteries ( one to each motor )
Hope this helps

Hi Alan.
Yes the prop shafts are glued into the skegs after all the alignments are correct. I used brushed speed 600s and have not water cooled them as I would not be making sustained speed runs and the 600s should be plenty powerfull enough to give a realistic scale speed, the boat would be extremely fast with brushless and costly. Having read the information on the forums there doesn't appear to any need to go brushless, but if you do I would use cooling. Make sure you use brass props ( much better, contra rotating)

Hi Alan,
Yes you will need use wheights and spirit levels to ensure there is no twist in the hull. I actually decided to use small brass screws to hold the deck in position so that I could keep removing, trimming and fettling untill I was happy then used slow setting epoxy and the screws to fit ( countersunk and filled over).
One thing to check are sprayrails, when I marked out the bow thruster position I discovered that one spray rail ran approx. 4mm higher than the other so after alot of measuring and marking out I eventually built up about 80mm of rail from 0-4mm-0 to bring everything back to sync. On the hull I inserted rods into the centre extention and through the hull to add a bit more strength. The white metal extentions on the outer keels I tapped and inserted brass threaded rod into to also strengthen the fit into the hull. I hope this is of help to you and when you are happy with the hull and deck, if you wish I will explain the small problems I faced with the cab. Let me know if your sprayrails are out it would be interesting to know.👍 Neil

Hi Alan
I have completed the hull and deck of the tamar and I have built the main cabin. I will be undercoating the hull soon . When you get your kit let me know and I will go through what I did, it makes into a beautiful boat but there are one or two things that have to be carefully done.
Regards Neil.👍

I thkink the amount of ÂA£5.00 yearly Is very little for such an Informative website. I am a member of a club, and have just had to pay ÂA£5 for being 10 days late for my yearly subs, and paid It with a little mutter, as I think the subs of ÂA£15 yearly are quite adequate....So come on...it's well worth It, YOU KNOW IT.
