imax b6 balance charger

Don't worry, we all have to start somewhere. I only started in to model boats 18 months ago and didn't have a ** clue! yep, made a few mistakes and dropped a few soft round things [and still do], but we move on and learn by it all. its trying to convince the bank account, thats the real bug bear.[ha ha]
Best wishes.

as soon as I connected the lead acid the error message appears and it wont let me change anything program wise.I have now found out what was wrong, the damn lead acid was no good, I connected the Imax to my neighbours lead acid and the Imax worked perfectly!!!,so I need to get another after I take this 'duff one' back.
thanks for your help

HI Mark
Look at http://www.heliguy.com/i/ImaxB6manual.pdf.
The error you are seeing seems to be related to the type of battery you are charging. You may have to select the correct battery type before you connect the battery to be charged.
So connect your 12v SLA to the input of the Imax.
From the menu display select the type of battery you wish to charge.
Then select the number of cells / charging current.
Then connect your battery and press start.
I have an Ultramat 16 charger and they can be a bit daunting at first.
All this is to protect you from overcharging LiPo's which is dangerous.
Hope this helps

the Imax works with the mains supply I got with it and charged the lead acid with it, charged it great to full capacity but when I change to the lead acid for field use I get 'imput voltage error'.
oh I just noticed it says on the lead acid its a valve regulated type(whatever that is).
i'm stumped
thanks....mark

imax b6 balance charger

HI Hydroman
Not familiar with this particular charger but a quick look on the web indicates this is a balanced charger for Lipo's, and will also charge Nicad / Nimh and SLA batteries.
Provided your 12v SLA is good it should be giving over 11v which is the built in cut off on the charger. I suggest you measure the voltage across the battery whilst it is connected to the charger. if over 11v then you could have a faulty unit and I would return it for a replacement.
A 10amp hour battery should be adequate for normal use.
hope this helps

does anyone know what would be the best sealed lead acid battery to get for the Imax b6 ?. I have a 12v 10amp/20hr, has this got too many amps ?, when I connect It, the display says 'imput voltage error'.

thanks guys problem solved, the lead acid was a dud.
