Help identifying this model boat

Hi Norm,

being as how you're in the US and I'm in Oz I reckon it is not much use me recommending a local Oz sail-maker.

From what I can gather from other fora (like that? My high school Latin does get some use) in the US a pretty good maker seems to be Carr Sails http://www.carrsails.com/

I am guessing that the cost of a set of sails for your yacht would be similar to those quoted for the Bearospace 'ANNIE'. $225 may sound like a lot but, from what I can gather, his sails are pretty well at the top of the pile. Check with a local sailing club, there are heaps of people around that make their own sails as well as lesser known sail-makers. The club may be able to point you in the right direction.

Unashamed plug for the Bearospace range of boats - I have no financial interest. There is a lot of info in these blogs to assist in building and making parts for semi-scale sailers :

I hope this can help you.

Cheers from Down Under,

Thanks terrymiff! That is really helpful, and now I understand the function of one of the lines at the top of the gaff near the jaw. Would you know someone who makes sails? I'm not at all up on sewing or working with fabrics. Norm

Hi Norm, just an observation of the rigging. Apologies if I appear to be pedantic.

The gaff jaws shown in picture #3 should be below the cross-trees and the stays. As shown, the gaff would not be able to be lowered. There must be a clean run of mast from the boom jaws to the gaff jaws. Moving the jaws below the cross-trees and the stays will then enable you to measure the correct length of the luff for when you make the sails.

A nice buy.

Cheers,

Terry

More likely Portugal 😉
Saudações, Doug 😎
BTW: madeira means 'wood'!
Young at heart 😉 Slightly older in other places.😊 Cheers Doug

I pried off a cabin roof and found a "builder's plate". The lettering is pressed into a piece of wood and was painted over, but I'm able to make out "madeira" and fragments of other words. I'm wondering if it originated in Spain or Italy and was sold as completed, rather than as a kit.

Help identifying this model boat

Good morning. I just acquired a large pond boat in Connecticut, but have reason to believe it's from New York, and would like to know more about it. I have attached a few pictures. It is a large model with a heavy lead keel. It is plank on frame construction and might be from the 1950's. It measures 55" overall, with 45.5" hull length, and is 15" across the beam. Any thoughts you may have regarding this model would be appreciated.

Thank you very much for your time. Best regards, Norm
