I'm not quite that old Dodgy, I belong to the Guest generation😉
Never 'eard of Ernie.
"The disadvantage is that internal space is severely limited by the egg-box structure and sub-deck."
Ernie's design sounds kinda complicated so not exactly EzeBuild!
Also not so good for fitting motors and RC.
Whereas Glynn was after simplicity as well a strength.

In some ways they remind me of Glynn Guest balsa boat plans....

I'd hoped that they would remind you of Ernie Webster's plans, since that's what they are intended to emulate!

Webster predates Guest by about 30 years, and his balsa designs feature locating tabs and an internal 'eggbox' structure made from interlocking slotted bulkheads. In some ways this is similar to Les Rowell's construction approach - it shares the advantage of not needing a building board because it is self-jigging.

But Webster took the distribution of mechanical strength even further. In particular, his keels are no more than another bulkhead - longitudinal, admittedly, but they are not major stress members, and do not act as datums. Instead, the stresses are spread throughout the whole hull with a complex of interlocking slotted parts, the hull is horizontally divided by a sub-deck which becomes the datum, and typically longitudinal strength is provided by two box structures either side of the centre-line rather than the keel.

This design produces a very stiff but lightweight hull. The disadvantage is that internal space is severely limited by the egg-box structure and sub-deck. An interesting comparison is with the contemporaneous competitor Model Aerodrome 'Marinecraft' kits, which used a sub-deck but also a very strong keel, and had more internal space. Webster's keels were almost an afterthought - they were added well after the hull had been created....

BC Patrol has returned to base.
Proceeded down channel to area of Nash Point, No movement of any vessels observed on radar. Headed in a southerly direction to close Somerset shore but no activity. Headed back up channel leaving Steep and Flat Holm on port side, across into Weston Bay, then back to base. Very quiet night.
Secured on home moorings. Hands to Breakfast, then weekend leave.
Over weekend will consider whole operation particularly shore side observation at suspect ports.

Looked through your Eezebilt plans and do think they are very clever. Some really nice sensible boats could be built from them.

Report on BC patrol 13/09/19
Wind NW force 1-2, visibility poor, sea slight.
Slipped moorings at 1245 hrs proceeded down channel clearing Rhoose point, the most southerly tip of Wales, by 2miles. Heading for West Gower peninsula and Carmarthen Bay.
Little shipping in the channel, cargo ship presumably bound for Avonmouth, gone are the days of Geest banana boats in Barry and the coal trade to the world from Barry, Cardiff and Newport.
No small vessel movements in the area at all.
Closed land off Port Eynon . Nothing to be seen either there or Rhossili beaches.
Proceeded to Saundersfoot. Now nearing High Water. Local fishing boats are showing some signs of life. Same at Tenby.
Headed South East to N.Devon, nearing coast, three fishing boats trawling. Ilfracombe harbour is quiet. Carried on past Combe Martin and Lynmouth to Porlock . A lone trawler at work. Porlock Weir is all quiet as expected as will soon be drying out.
Headed back to base, arriving 1115hrs. Hands to day duties then make and mend.
It appears that any smuggling going on is only on an occasional basis, possibly once a week, or on demand. Persistence will produce results but may need land surveillance as well as sea. I will consider all aspects and make plans accordingly.

Yes, DG you are right, but I'm afraid at my age I think I'm lucky to be able to use a computer to do as much as I can. I know many of my contemporaries who have even less of a clue than I do and wouldn't dare even look at one. I am lucky in having a younger partner who is much more versed in such things and I will pass your information on to her, so that she can help me out and look at Doug's video.

Nowadays you need to understand a lot of things if you are to have a chance of knowing what is going on! This applies as much to computing as to everything else...

Opera has a good example of this. I use it because it is the most inherently secure of the general purpose browsers - its design team always opt for the most secure default option. A little while ago this was demonstrated when Opera users were unable to connect to some bank sites.

The reason turned out to be that a crypto key certificate had been revoked. The web uses an encryption technique called a 'public key certificate' to let communicating entities prove who they are, and like all crypto, if a key is compromised it should be revoked, and people should not use it any more. This data is held in a Key Revocation List, which browsers ought to automatically check before accepting a certificate.

Opera did, and prevented access to sites using the revoked key as a result. Safari, Chrome and Firefox didn't, and allowed compromised access. And there was an initial outcry that Opera must be broken because people couldn't access their banks....

But with naval ships I'm reasonably at home😉
Somewhere in my plans stash I have one of an armed Tug (or trawler?), name of St Abbs I think. Which one do you have? The ammo lighters sound good👍
I also bought an Armageddon LCT kit 1/72, but was bitterly disappointed to discover it was cast resin, very thick and weighs a ton. Would float like a lead brick☹️ The pennant number is 538.

I'm not quite as bad as you, (is that the right thing to say), but I'm catching up.

I've just started building a 42" 1/24 scale sailing barge.
I'm planning a 30" sailing barge of older style, swim headed and Stumpy rig.
I would like to build a couple of Dutch barges.
I bought a ready built Model Slipway's Armed Tug, needs a couple of jobs doing before I can sail her. For her to tow, I want to build a couple of ammunition lighters.
I fancy building a model of any of the tugs that were owned by J.P.Knight Ltd. of Rochester because I used to sail and race with Tony Knight on his Fife 7 metre 'Thalassa.
An LST is another possible, my father skippered 368.
And before I've made any impression on that lot, I'll have thought of another project

"Good luck with your pair of carriers, will they be RC or static models. You must have a huge fleet."
Hi Nerys,
Original plan was to make Vengeance RC for me and Minas Gerais static for my old mate at Siemens who designed the Tactical Intercom for me while I designed the radio systems.
The integration of the two we did together, back in the early nineties. Had to hijack him to Rio to do it!
Minas was one of the earliest carriers to have a digital Integrated Internal / External COMMS system. 😊
But I haven't heard from him in over year, despite emails☹️, so maybe I'll do both RC just for me.
"Huge fleet?" Mostly a Box Fleet I'm afraid.😌
I call it my "Mothball Fleet" 😉
Cheers, Doug 😎
BTW: I was pleased to learn that before Minas was scrapped our Intercom / Radio System was transferred to a Newport class Landing Ship operated by the Brazilian Navy.
As far as I know it's still going strong after 25 years!

To, Fleet Admiral RNHQ Munchen,
Report on BC patrol 12/09/19
Slipped moorings 0130, headed out into channel, set course to clear Rhoose Point by one mile. Sea moderate. Wind force 3-4 SSW, but making good speed.
0340 Radar reports small vessel on Northerly course from N.Devon area. This eventually becomes certain that she is headed for Saundersfoot. Arriving off Wisemans Bridge closed land and launched seaboat in order to put a surveillance party ashore. This consists of Leading Seaman and two ABs equipped with folding bicycles. Their instructions are to follow road from Wiseman's Bridge through tunnel to Saundersfoot Harbour. Leading Seaman is familiar with the area. They are to observe anything happening in harbour and the vessel which is now approaching harbour. We are standing just off shore and awaiting their report. They report vessel entering harbour 0545, fishing boat with local registration. Vessel ties up and shortly starts to unload cargo of fish.
Instruct shore party to return to Wisemans Bridge and picked up by sea boat.
There appear to be no other vessel movements anywhere else in the area, so returned to base.
I think this shows that any smuggling is not carried out every day, but is intermittent and it will need constant surveillance if we are to reach a conclusion. We may have to have a vessel stationed in the Western BC with regular observation at all ports by shore party to note any unusual behaviour both day and night.
Will decide nature of tonight's patrol after due consideration.

Evening Doug,
Bit late answering this post, but I have just spent about five hours tied to the dialysis machine.I agree with you about Vengeance but it is surprising how the navy seem to hang on to some ships and scrap, or sell, others. For instance, the Torpedo ASR school HMS Defiance, up the Tamar on the Cornish side of Plymouth harbour consisted of three ships that were part of the Victorian navy, HMS Inconstant, Vulcan and Andromeda. That was the set up in the 40s and 50s and I do not know how much longer it carried on. Rumour had it that all three had been sold for scrap, then rented back.
Good luck with your pair of carriers, will they be RC or static models. You must have a huge fleet.

Wind appears to be dropping slowly, so intend carrying out surveillance patrol of area between Gower Peninsula and Tenby. I shall make radar check for any movement of vessels between N.Somerset and N Devon coasts as weather in that area may still be too rough for suspects to put to sea.
Am not sailing until 0200 as I wish to coordinate my activities with HW in that area.
Welsh Navy are not joining me as they have their weekly sgods and sglodions party, and I know the state they get in. They asked our ship's company to join them, but refused as we wish to have something to celebrate before making whoopee.
