To- Fleet Admiral RNHQ Munchen

BC Patrol, presently moored in Milford Haven. I have today been looking around local moorings and talking to fishing boat skippers. A couple have told me that they have taken a number of families and individuals wishing to escape the current UK political turmoil across to the Emerald Isle. We need have no worries about these craft. All are well founded and professionally crewed.

Will make decision on patrol 3/11/19 later. Wind is force 4-6 SW at the moment, but strong gales are forecast for offshore later.

Ref post from Fleet 1/11/19 following my suggestion of a patrol in the West of Scotland to stop the illegal commercial scallop dredging that is having devastating effect on scallop beds and the sea bed in general in the western sea lochs. Please read Fleet's post and then perhaps we could discuss further actions re type of patrol, degree of presence etc.

Very good Lt. Nerys. Plans approved.
Good to hear that the crews are enjoying some well earned R&R,

REF WoS Squadron.
Excellent suggestion Lt.👍
Please liaise with Lt Cmdr Marky Scottish Navy and Sub Lt Rooky of NW Squadron re formation (platform availability) and Command & Coordination structure.
Politically the matter will probably have to be sanctioned by Mrs Caviar's Govt.
(Keep it under your hat, inform others on NEED TO KNOW basis only, and maybe the Wild Haired Devil and the scallop dredgers won't get wind of it!)

Are you thinking of Standing Patrols or Fast Response Units?
Remember: for a Standing Patrol you will need a minimum of three vessels-
One on active duty, one in transit to or from patrol area, one in maintenance / refit.
You will also need a minimum of four crews (incl. COs) to sustain such an effort with three ships! One on R&R at any one time. 😁
A fourth ship in reserve would be good, but maybe not possible considering how overstretched our surface units already are🤔

Where do you propose to base such a force? Area of Operations?
Oban would be nice😊 But maybe Lewis more practical re response time, if boring🤔

Bristol Channel patrol is safely moored in the LFG base in Milford Haven. It was the intention to patrol the southern Irish Sea, Pembrpkeshire and Ceredigion coasts tonight but strong gales have put paid to that. We will remain here for time being, carry out a few patrols when weather improves then return to home moorings. Crew are quite happy, LFG have good club (NAAFI style) on base which they are using.

After watching TV news tonight, can I suggest we form a West of Scotland Squadron to stop the large commercial Scallop Dredgers destroying the sea bed and everything on it. A worthy environmental cause if ever there was one.

Your message to all units received and noted. Bristol Channel patrol will slip from base at 0200 and proceed along South Wales coast to Milford Haven where we are meeting with units of the LFG. In view of the present confused political situation we are aware that the number of escapees is likely to increase. Should any require our assistance we will help in whatever way is appropriate. The problem of scrumpy smuggling has reared it's head again and we are on lookout for this activity as it would be nice to top up the ship's stocks. We are probably operating too far south for the prawn poachers, but will bear this in mind. Depending on situation, may moor at LFG West Wales base after patrol in order to be in place for further more extensive patrol in southern Irish Sea Friday night.

Today as part of our training programme for the Bristol Channel Patrol, in conjunction with units of the LFG we held a series of pulling and sailing races within the Cardiff Bay Barrage. We are lucky to posssess a number of traditional ex RN boats which we consider ideal. Between us, we have six 27ft Whalers and six RNSA 14ft sailing dinghies. The whalers are used for both pulling and sailing races.
As has happened before, whilst we dominate the sailing races, the LFG have the upperhand in the pulling races as one of their midshipmen is a Cambridge rowing 'blue' and takes charge of training as well as rowing as stroke.
However, a good days competition was achieved and it was decided to hold similar days perhaps monthly depending on weather.

W.O Hargett reporting:
Alls quiet in the West with the exception of a report from the Texas Rangers-they have reported the apprehension of a pair of Oklahoma Rabbit Regulars driving a tractor-trailer loaded with supplies and arms headed north on US75, they were stopped just shy of the Texas-Oklahoma border after a high speed chase that also involved units of the Texas Highway Patrol and the Feline Division of the Texas Navy. The arms and supplies have been confiscated and the Rabbits are being held for questioning. There is an envoy from the Oklahoma Legislature trying to secure the rabbits release. But I’ve been assured any attempts to extradite said rabbits will be tied up by diplomatic and bureaucratic red tape. The contents of the truck include:
Two 6 pounder guns, several 40mm Bofors, several .50 caliber Brownings, a crate of carrots, some anti-Texas propaganda leaflets, and what looks to be an attempt to build a rail gun using scrap angle iron and powered by a bank of slightly swollen LIPOs.
Other than that, a quiet night in North Texas, much better than a few nights ago when the tornado sirens went off.
Also-construction on the newest Texas Navy vessel continues, good chance it will undergo sea trials well before Christmas of this year.

My captors were fool enough to lock me in the Wine & Spirits cellar under the restaurant.
While my guard nipped out for a drag (the tobacco variety!!) I managed to slip several bottles of hi-proof vodka into the staff beer barrel. They are now all comfortably 💤💤💤💤💤💤ing so it was a doddle to obtain the keys 😁 and trundle home in the manager's Merc.
With a few choice cartons of wine of course😋
Many thanks all for offers of assistance👍 and Meeeow to Errol, no rabbits in the park but several squirrels, grey and red-brown.
Looking forward to Texan Bratwurst & Schnitzel Cash, Chorizo Sausage?🔥😛

For future reference, in case they try something again, a small seaplane (Alaska style) could probably make it in to the larger southern part of the lake. Tie up to bridge on eastern side of the island.
Clearing south of the lake suitable for small troop glider, or LL Drop from the Herc.
Tree cover and high ground east of the lake suitable for stealth approach to the restaurant at the north end. Avoid Biergarten (for obvious reasons🙄) until after successful conclusion of action!!
After this ordeal (locked up in a wine cellar, Hic😁) Surgeon Commander has insisted on signing me off for a weeks rest.😊

A fine predicament you have got yourself into. I used Google translator on your Welsh sentence because it didn't make sense to me and after doing so, even less.
Now, how do we effect your release. The ransom demands are technically beyond my capabilities, I'm just a simple sailor girl. If they wanted a topsail schooner rerigging or a lecture on traditional sail in the Thames Estuary, then I'm your girl, but all that technical stuff..... no!. Actually it sounds complicated enough that most, if not all could come from your own resources.

Alternatives.

At one time, the Welsh Navy would have sent a gunboat, but in view of the location, that could be difficult. Would it be possible to land a seaplane on the Ostpark Lake with a detachment of marine commandos from the Welsh Navy to storm your prison and effect your release.
Or, could I buy your release with a box of my renowned sausage rolls.?

Your advice please if you can evade your captors long enough to answer.

I am afraid my lack of time before departure to sea this evening was caused by medical necessity. Please remember I have to receive four hours treatment every other evening and this can easily overrun.
The Comms Officer has a special understanding with her Irish Counterpart to use CW when they communicate as both like to take the opportunity to practice this skill, so little used today. As I have told you, my crew are instructed in the use of visual (light) morse signalling. I am a great believer in the use of the traditional skills.

All vessels over 500 tons or capable of carrying 50 or more passengers MUST be equipped with COMMS equipment according to SOLAS/GMDSS Rules. Not to mention the Service requirements.
I.e. for your operating area (Area A1 Inshore) a minimum of one VHF IMM Band voice radio.
(Plus of course the obligatory 'float off' SARSAT/COSPAS 406MHz emergency beacons)
CW (Morse) MF/HF operation is regarded as a last resort when nothing else works, e.g. beyond the 70th parallels, where SATCOM doesn't reach!

Render all assistance necessary and within your logistic capability to any BREXIT / Shaggy Monster escapees encountered. Good luck Lt.
My thoughts are with you! 👍

Carry on Lt. (but not with that hunky new Snotty😉 Be discrete!!! We don't want a 'Fantail Party' disaster!)

Night Watch

Sorry Fleet, I was rather busy before leaving base and deemed the efficiency of our departure operation to have priority. The Comms Officer was operating on CW to our Irish friends at the time.
We are now off Ilfracombe on a westerly course and will proceed into Barnstaple Bay and then head towards Clovelly before returning to base. All quiet so far.

FLEET (Breathing deep sigh of relief 😊) TO Lt. Nerys:
Good to hear from you Lt.
Am missing your PRIOR advice of patrol plan and time of departure though!!😠
But relieved to hear from you!😊
Agreed Lt, it is not within our aegis to prevent UK citizens from exercising their right to escape from the wild haired tyrant. Rather more to offer any assistance necessary, from a nautical / seaworthiness, navigation, provisions point of view to ensure the safety of their voyage.
I sincerely hope that on arrival they will not face the administrative difficulties that others of us will / are due to the (as you rightly and succinctly assess) impending doom.
Bon voyage Lt.👍

Night Watch

To Fleet Admiral RNHQ Munchen

Have just received your message, nearly two hours after leaving base. I feel that any activities regarding these refugees is humanitarian and will not increase the costs of our normal operations.
Sorry to hear that permission to operate on the Lower Rhine has been refused. Hopefully this will be altered when our true plight is realised. Perhaps we will have to declare Flat Holm as an independent republic instead.

Night Watch

To Fleet Admiral RNHQ Munchen

Wind Force 3 to 5 Westerly Sea moderate, visibility good. High Water 0924.
Bristol Channel patrol together with units of LFG will again patrol waters of North Somerset and Devon coast. Information gathered from yacht intercepted last night indicates that more refugees are planning the short voyage to the Irish Republic as a means of escape from impending doom. Contact in Irish FP informs me that last night's yacht was intercepted and escorted
into port as requested. We will investigate any such movements and ascertain they are capable of safe passage. We do not feel that it is in our remit to prevent such voyages.
Patrol left base at 2230 17/10/19. Return ETA 0630.
