Quite agree Nerys (If I may make so bold with one of my junior officers!😉)
Gisela and I are planning to go down that way (Bodensee!) during Advent, to sample some of the Christkindlemarkts. Only a couple of hours drive from us😊

FLEET TO Lt. Cmdr. Marky, CET 21:20
REF: "Request for a few days leave Fleet ,heading oop north to Aberdeenshire"
And if I say no Commander, we need you as senior officer to lead the NE Flotilla on patrol?
You'd only mutiny and go AWOL 🙄 so to save us a lot of aggro and paperwork - Leave granted.
Will expect full report on the museum visit. Last time I was there was about '84.
That's 1984 not 1884 U 'orrible lot😠😁
Carry on Commander.

No objection Lt.
I am assuming that you are also assessing the LFG fleet with regard to the transfer to Friedrichshafen / Lindau on or before 31st October? Preferably before!

Having seen the weather not only today but for the forthcoming few days and deemed it unsuitable for shipborne operations in the Bristol Channel, I have decided to spend the weekend examining port facilities and the vessels currently occupying Bristol Docks. I trust the High Command will not object as this is a semi official visit.

Weather forecast does not encourage anyone to put to sea tonight. Wind Westerly backing Southerly, force 5 -7 gusting 8 and I know what the channel seas can be like under those conditions, particularly when the ebb sets in after 0500 this morning. Prudence is called for. That's if she's around!

Sorry Doug, little mistake, I omitted the name 'back splice' after short splice which is the one that bears reference to part of a dog's anatomy.
As I'm sure you know, efficient reception of morse by light needs a lot of practice, so that is something we intend doing on all patrols.

Ken. Just thought, be good entertainment for our Christmas bash, 'how to tie a monkey's fist'. Think how useful such a throwline would be for rescuing broken down boats on the lake.

Ken, very nice of you and Kevin to be prepared to come and shift the dismantled hangar, but the weather has been so bad, Alice hasn't been able to finish off the new one or prepare the ground for the old small one. But, not to worry, when we are ready I'll make the sausage rolls.
Cheers

Know what you mean Nerys, a couple of years ago, was cutting the edge of a hull with a 10A blade scalpel, was not concentrating, and went straight through the right side of my left hand palm, blood everywhere, wife wanted me to go to A&E, but at 23:00hrs, no way, it would be full of drunks, so I got her to put a load of medistrips across the 3" cut, and then plaster'n'bandage, held up well, and no further problems, but I can hear my Dad saying,
'Never cut twarts thee, always cut awah from thee'.
sorry Dad!🙄
Cheers, Peter

We all do silly things with tools at times. Few months ago a Stanley Slim Knife fell off the workbench onto my left foot. Straight in, like a dagger. It bled, Tourniquet to stop it. Bad enough to get paramedics out, who dressed it (badly, dressing fell off). Went to GPs, dressed again, then Alice took over the dressing. Upshot is, I have a blade size dent in my left foot.

Self inflicted injury Commander!?
Why wasn't the vice bolted to the bench according to regulations!!😠

I've ordered the SC to conduct a full endoscope examination, just to be on the safe side!😁

Training of members of the ship's company today was intended as an introduction to fancy knot work. All hands were taught to make a 'monkey's fist' and the correct way to use it as the weight of a throwline. This is considered a good way of increasing efficiency when coming alongside.
Thank you for shipping forecast for Barry. We will shortly be slipping moorings, rendezvousing with LFG ships and patrolling South Wales coast as far as Worms Head. Will also use this patrol to practice visual morse communication between ships.

"Did you say hair Doug!!"
Sure did Commodore,
I still have a full head plus beard😊
On the rare occasions I could be aboard during the sea trials of the ships I had worked on, at least in the design / negotiation stage, I loved the feel of the wind in my face as the ship/boat worked up to full speed. If the ship had open bridge wings that's where you would find me!
The Germans call that the "Fahrtwind" 😮 although I never smelt anything other than salt!😁

"Stand by your beds, officer on parade .. "
Welcome aboard Warrant👍
Stand easy, by your bunk if you please!
We don't stand on spit and polish here.
Lt. Nerys is more interested in operational efficiency and the seamanship qualities of the crews under her command.
Which I believe has contributed to her recent promotions.
Carry on Warrant.

Will be resuming my duties Monday 07/09/19. Training session during the day, then, weather permitting, patrol at night.

As Peter said Nerys, sad but probably not totally unexpected news.
I feel for Alice, I went through the same with Dad a few years ago, Alzheimer and Parkinsons.
Then he joined the Great Spitfire Squadron in the Sky.
Mum is still terrorising Nottingham with her walker. At 94. She's determined to get her telegram from the Queen!
Remember the happy and funny days Alice👍
All the best to you both, Doug

Sad to hear that Nerys, but I think Alice was expecting news like that, when life gets to a point that you can't enjoy it, relief is the only answer, not what one wants to hear or accept, but I think Alice knows it's for the best.😔

Thank you to everyone who sent their good wishes to Alice and myself. We visited her mum, who, though weak, was quite responsive though unable to say more than a couple of words. The ward sister's opinion was that she probably has another couple of weeks.
