Quite agree Nerys (If I may make so bold with one of my junior officers!😉)
Gisela and I are planning to go down that way (Bodensee!) during Advent, to sample some of the Christkindlemarkts. Only a couple of hours drive from us😊

FLEET TO Lt. Cmdr. Marky, CET 21:20
REF: "Request for a few days leave Fleet ,heading oop north to Aberdeenshire"
And if I say no Commander, we need you as senior officer to lead the NE Flotilla on patrol?
You'd only mutiny and go AWOL 🙄 so to save us a lot of aggro and paperwork - Leave granted.
Will expect full report on the museum visit. Last time I was there was about '84.
That's 1984 not 1884 U 'orrible lot😠😁

Having seen the weather not only today but for the forthcoming few days and deemed it unsuitable for shipborne operations in the Bristol Channel, I have decided to spend the weekend examining port facilities and the vessels currently occupying Bristol Docks. I trust the High Command will not object as this is a semi official visit.

To - Fleet Admiral RNHQ Munchen

Weather forecast does not encourage anyone to put to sea tonight. Wind Westerly backing Southerly, force 5 -7 gusting 8 and I know what the channel seas can be like under those conditions, particularly when the ebb sets in after 0500 this morning. Prudence is called for. That's if she's around!

Sorry Doug, little mistake, I omitted the name 'back splice' after short splice which is the one that bears reference to part of a dog's anatomy.

As I'm sure you know, efficient reception of morse by light needs a lot of practice, so that is something we intend doing on all patrols.

Know what you mean Nerys, a couple of years ago, was cutting the edge of a hull with a 10A blade scalpel, was not concentrating, and went straight through the right side of my left hand palm, blood everywhere, wife wanted me to go to A&E, but at 23:00hrs, no way, it would be full of drunks, so I got her to put a load of medistrips across the 3" cut, and then plaster'n'bandage, held up well, and no further problems, but I can hear my Dad saying,
'Never cut twarts thee, always cut awah from thee'.
sorry Dad!🙄

We all do silly things with tools at times. Few months ago a Stanley Slim Knife fell off the workbench onto my left foot. Straight in, like a dagger. It bled, Tourniquet to stop it. Bad enough to get paramedics out, who dressed it (badly, dressing fell off). Went to GPs, dressed again, then Alice took over the dressing. Upshot is, I have a blade size dent in my left foot.

Training of members of the ship's company today was intended as an introduction to fancy knot work. All hands were taught to make a 'monkey's fist' and the correct way to use it as the weight of a throwline. This is considered a good way of increasing efficiency when coming alongside.

Thank you for shipping forecast for Barry. We will shortly be slipping moorings, rendezvousing with LFG ships and patrolling South Wales coast as far as Worms Head. Will also use this patrol to practice visual morse communication between ships.
