That would be back to your favorites Martin - Warships!!!!!!. Only combination I could think of was the gunboats built for use on the Zambesi/Pungwe rivers by Thorneycroft in the 1890's. About 40' to 45', steam powered - built in sections - dismantled - shipped and re-assembled in Beira - PEA . Never been able to find pictures of the three of them but presume they must have had the standard layout with 3pdr in front as built for the Indian Rajas, Malaysia etc. As the "Pioneers" were very fond of the Nordenfeldt (similar to the Vickers M G) presume they were armed with those too..........
PEA was annexed by a Sergeant and 6 Mounted Troopers but Queen Victoria returned it to the Portuguese in exchange for an obscure island which was also returned to them later.........

You might indeed be hot footing it (funneling it ?) Martin - think the author omitted to say metal funnel . But its still of practical use - not sure but I think he meant Salt Petre which of course is one of the ingredients of gunpowder..........Stand to be corrected on the name of course..........

Red,
WOW that is old school.
Could be fun if you have a Balsa wood funnel LOL!
You will need to take a Fire boat with you LOL!

This would be ideal for use with a small aerosol can used as a dummy vertical boiler - simple and not unpleasant smell according to the author ! Note the warning regarding the rubber band ! And in single cylinder engines with exhaust not routed through the funnel (like the African Queen) the smoke does not puff in time with the engine...........
