I haven’t had to test the transmission range yet. I will post my results, and video when I complete the testing.

What’s the transmission distance on the runcam? I’m on the lookout for something similar to this but for my use case it needs to get about 500ft away and can’t use WiFi. Image quality is less important and no need to record. It’ll be used a little like an FPV cam.

What I wound up with is a RunCam 3S. I chose it because it is fully self contained with it’s own (replaceable) battery, microSD (64GB) card, and wi-fi capability that make viewing and controlling the camera on a smart phone.
Dimension: 40x38x37mm. Weight: 69g (with battery). Resolution: 1080p@60fps.

There's quite a few options that would work, from all in one camera/video transmitters to seperate parts ranging in price from £20 to a few hundred. Don't know what kind of range you would get on water though. The popular ones work off 5.8GHz, but if you have plenty of money to spare the dji digital system is supposed to be better. Though as far as I'm aware it's only designed for air use. A good idea if you have a head tracking module might be to have a pan and tilt mount for the camera inside the boats cockpit for a more immersive experience.
It's certainly do-able.

I guess it would be...just want to see where the boat is going, and record some footage. Don’t want a clumsy rig, something I can hide....sorta like what is on a small drone.

Is a telemetry camera the same as an fpv camera?

I put a cheap go pro type one on a bit of Velcro for filming on the water
