HI Biggriff
I have now had the Solent plans copied and will photocopy the original instructions that came with the kit- definitely not for the beginner!
The photocopy cost A£2 and I expect the postage will be similar. I'll let you know the final figure next week.
Good luck with the restoration
Dave

Tall Paul Motor problems

Have purchased the 900 BB motor intend to try it at 12 V first before 18 V if found to be necessary.

Two blade 50 mm plastic prop is on the boat with the older motor. this NEW MOTOR, 900 BB it does not have anything like the same fitting requirements it has just a face plate
(1) Water Cooling: not sure if it will need water cooling - it may safe to provide - need to purchase kit maybe ? any recommendations ?
(2) Fittings: looks like I may need to bent metal frame that will have length along boat and then bend up for the face plate ? photos ?
would appreciate viewing someones with a 900 BB already fitted ... very kind, can offer free coffee and biscuits

Tall Paul Motor problems

26/06/08 Skimmer scratch build compeleted with a satin varnish finish (plans with Model Boats magazine Sep 2007) almost skimmed today - needs a 5 X 5 prop as the one fitted is a heavy 'less screw' prop and it did not plane. Also need now to build the pilot's seat and a pilot (both need to be very light (balsa wood being used - doped and then painted).

Thanks for that Peter,

It has just the one prop and one motor and does not get anywhere to planing speed - as you say they are quite heavy.

Someone else on this site has suggested a 900 motor - not sure about what current would be taken from 12 V Lead Acid batteries that are fitted at present and with plastic two blade 50 mm prop.

have a look at the likes of a SPEED 900 BB run on 12v they are not to amp hungry and you can use a largish prop, wooden fireboats are a bit heavy to say the least and you would not need a special speed controler as the amp's draw will not be to great .

the motor you have where a good motor in there day but have been about for far to long prob about 25 years and are ok in tugs slow turning props , these graupner motors are a lot better built and more flexible
