Re - How will we make sure there is no cheating going on

You would have to submit photographic proof of tub measurements Martin, for an accurate handicap to be assigned, and of course video evidence of racing in said tub, with appropriate identifying landmarks😁

As I am using the good weather to mend the roof of the Boat man shed and having seen some of the models in various buckets and tanks I thought I would put a couple in the pond to get their bottoms wet.
Thought about depth charging the fish but the wife wasn’t too impressed with that idea....No sense of fun these girls.
Brilliant site as always.👍🍷🍷
Take care everyone

Do you get in the tub with the boat?
The sure way to succeed is, just try one more time

Re -No no no no JB!😮

Just thought now you mention that Doug - could always use my neighbors' pool which is about 12ft in diam and holds about 2000 gals (water not women Doug😁) It's one of those plastic pipe framed ones which he puts up every year. He's always getting his kids to stir the pool to make the dirt go to the center to vacuum, so perhaps I could offer my boats to do it, just tether them to the side and apply the power.

Am in the process of scanning a plan from the old Model Maker manual (and the old Ads) - if its built at half size would be an ideal competition model for us - could even be built out of cardboard with home made props and "Biro" pen shaft - so how about it Ladies & Gents - length of the bath races - a challenge to keep boredom at bay.......

" I use the bath and hang on tight when running the motor."
So do I Nerys👍
Except-
Can't get my Graf Spee or HMS Belfast in the bath at all, too long🤔
Have to test in the lake.
My 135cm HMS Hotspur just floats, but only if I bung up the overflow and fill the bath almost to the rim😮 and the raked bow must be at the sloped end.
Full throttle on both screws and I get wet feet😂
Cheers, Doug 😎

"To Make it a true contest some rules will have to be made and if plastic models can be converted and included.
I suppose it will have to be like the boat must fit in a box xH-xW-xD dimensions.
It could get a bit technical and therefor loose the fun factor. "

Oh well, I guess that's killed that then☹️
Like the short lived enthusiasm for Pop Pop boats, and my Pop Pop building competition suggestion!

An ALL UNITS broadcast from Fleet Command to follow shortly.

Great idea Rowen👍
Are Put-put / Pop-pop boats eligible?😁
Time trials over a Standing 50cm?😂
Max speed over 25cm, rolling start?🤣
Hmm. thinks ... 🙄 Now where's my old Jetex 50 motor .....

"but I don't have the lungs for it these day"
No no no no JB!😮
Not those piddly little inflatable kiddy paddling pools!
Some years ago I bought (in Walmart - we still had one then, miss it🤔)
a ca 4m dia pool with a vinyl floor and ca 1/4" walls, which were self-supporting when filled.
No huffing and puffing at all.😊
When emptied just roll it up and stash in the shed / garage for the winter😉
Wish I still had it, that was two moves ago.
Cheers, Doug 😎

Gentlemen,
Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas. The plan was only to load the motors so could get some idea of baseline settings. Accomplished that at least.
The ideas generated though make me wonder if we could not establish some type of competition.
Using small vessels: races around a wheelbarrow tub, or inside a tractor tyre, even sprints in a plasters bath!
Seriously, think this one post has generated more "likes" than my build blogs!
Stay safe everyone.

Wouldn't one of those ca 2 to 3m collapsible garden pools be quicker and easier JB

Possibly Doug, but I don't have the lungs for it these day, would probably fall over giving it mouth to mouth😁. I'd have to buy a pump.

Always thought of building a circular trough Rowen, so the water can flow naturally. The boats tend to suck down in a short tank as they cant move the water round to the front fast enough, and are just pumping it back. Space for something like this would be a problem. Something like a tractor tyre cut in half might do the trick. You could get the water rotating nicely.

I use a plasterer's mixing bath. Just big enough for the Crash Tender and the WeeNip. Picked it up cheap on Gumtree.

Thats a good idea.
You could also move it around the garden and give it full throttle for watering the plants, better than a sprinkler LOL!!

That's a good idea. I use the bath and hang on tight when running the motor. More depth than a wheelbarrow. No good for my deep fin keel sailing craft though.

Currently many of us are on some form of lock-down.
Was anxious to check the ESC programming of the brushless motors in my RAF RTTL project under water load.
Used an idea had once seen tried by another modeller. Have refined the idea into a Hi-Tech version using constant water top-up, restraining cords and a rubber buffer in my wife's wheelbarrow.
The 32" hull fit snugly and was able to exercise both motors and establish baselines. Just waiting for our local parks to reopen so can validate on open water.
Useful method in these trying circumstances.
Stay safe all
