Help

Hi Lee.
I would say it's definitely an original Lesro (Les Rowell) Harbour Pilots Boat that's had an I/C engine previously.
Two of us on this site are building an updated version of this boat from a kit produced by SLEC.
The suggested motor is a 3536 1000 or 1250Kv brushless with a 2 blade 40mm prop and a 11.1v 3S 5000mAh Lipo battery.
I'd say that if the wood hasn't been ruined by diesel or Glo fuel it could be rejuvenated quite successfully.

Help

Hi Lee,
"Any suggestions on electric motor,
The boat is 35"×12" "
Sorry, only just picked up on this!
Since no one else answered that question, here's my two €cents worth.
With a 3 to 1 length to beam ration the hull was probably not specifically designed for speed.
More for sea keeping.
So I reckon something like a 540/550 brushed and 30 to 35mm 3 blade prop running on a 7.2V NiMh or 2S LiPo should do nicely for a scale speed.
Alternative; a 28XX brushless around 750 - 1000kV.
A battery of 4000mAh and up and an ESC rated circa 20Amp continuous should give you a running time of an hour or so with little or no risk of anything overheating or need for complicated cooling plumbing👍 If you want more WHOOOOSH try a 10 cell NiMh or 3S LiPo - but keep an eye (finger tip?) on the motor temperature!
Hope this helps as guideline.
Happy restoring/converting. Let us know how you get on 😉
Cheers, Doug 😎

Help

Meant to say that the closest superstructure Ive seen is my River Tug Luemba - but that would be nonsense as the hull is definitely not a tug - not sure what the original owner was building.

Help

Hi Lee,

It looks like an HAKits Pilot boat.

If it looks right it probably is.

Help

With the bottom rails it looks like a fast hull ( eg a Huntress ) - but the buffers on the sides suggest a work boat not a leisure type - so agree with RH its probably a Pilot Boat or Lifeboat. The superstructure is not one I am familiar with so will have a look through my references tomorrow. The hull looks a little like a stretched Brede , possibly a Liverpool type Lifeboat - but the superstructure is clearly wrong for either of those.

Help

Difficult to say, looks rather like a freelance version of a pilot launch or lifeboat.
Cannot say if it is worth rebuilding, but other contributors have restored models that look in far worse condition.
If the wood is sound it can be stripped and glued where necessary.
Without knowing the size, difficult to suggest a motor. As there are so many available though and quite inexpensive am sure worth giving it a go.
