Not sure Ron - Kevin uses gas on most of his steam sets - with a small tank made of 22mm copper pipe - so I should imagine its quite a long run - about 15 minutes at a guess. Only seen that boat in action once . Would love one myself but he wont be building another one .

This is great. How long of a run and what do you use for file, sterno?Alcohol? I have a Midwest steam launch that uses sterno a s what I do is build up steam on the table, put the fire out, add more fuel the put it in the water. Get bout a 30 minute run👍

Now for my other friends boat - different altogether - only about 15" long - tinplate with the crankshaft running through the boiler - Kevin makes the superb steam engines I posted earlier.

That is the village of Napier where Kevin lives in the background - or at least part of it

Marky - you cant believe the conditions he made the Bartender under - his garage is 19' the Bartender 22' . So he made a temporary extension for it and the only help he received on the entire build was to turn it over (hull built upside down) and it took 12 strong people to do that . It is beautifully made - and the finish is superb. He burnt out 3 of the 9 18v rechargeable screwdrivers he was using . Imagine how many screws 22' of boat took with one plank (scarf jointed) the entire length with the screws at 2" intervals gluing as he went..............
The only help I gave him was the laser engraved builders plate.........
He never once asked for any other help in the 2 odd years the build took! Nor would he have accepted it...........

Your friend is extremely talented, absolutely beautiful boats and it would appear that his real boats are just as good.

Hi Red,
Your friend certainly makes some fantastic boats.
Please pass on a "very well done".

If it looks right it probably is.

Steam Boats

My friend builds exquisite Steam Boat models - they are LARGE - one is over six feet long .
All powered by Stuart Double 10's with three drum yarrow boilers . Most are planked with teak and two are clinker hulls - he also builds full size boats - including a 16' 1 to 1 scale Electric Launch (which he gave away - sadly not to me) . That was built by enlarging a plan found in a very small book - and was a beautiful boat.
He has since built another - a 22' Bartender - designed for crossing the Oregon Bar (where they teach the Coast Guarders to handle rough water)
Have finally got some pictures from him - sadly not the Electric Launch
