I've an idea then where things may be going wrong. When you're editing a post it's temporarily saved, then when finally posted it transfers everything over. It sounds like it's this part which is faulty.

I agree on everyones points with uploads. I keep procrastinating about fixing it as I know it's such a troublesome feature to code up and have working reliably x-browser/x-app, also what happens with unused uploads (need deleting after a while), file formats that are acceptable, re-sizing hi-res images if needed to reduce file size, reading exif data and rotating upside down pictures, having a working progress bar for uploads so people don't give up, what happens if files get corrupted. Then shifting files around... well not too bad but adding drag and drop is complex, desktops need mouse down, mouse move and mouse up events, mobile users need touch start, touch move and touch end events and thumbnails need to snap and shuffle around similar to moving phone app icons. It's complex!

I'm tempted to remove the upload window mind, agree there is no need to pull images from google photos / dropbox etc. Anyone use that feature at all? If using the mobile app it's often a built in feature now to pick photos from other services on your phone directly.

The other thing I'd quite like to do is change the media viewer. On desktops it's ok (except arrow keys to toggle through), but on mobile it often shows the image smaller and doesn't allow for zooming in which is sometimes annoying.

All on the to-do list. Perhaps something for my next holiday.

Hi Stephen, the extra photo's appeared when I first downloaded my own photo's, they all appeared on the right of the screen, I tried to delete them, but everytime I deleted one that was not mine, one of my own disappeared?, so I clicked submit, then Doug (rn in Munich) tried to delete the foreigners, but again deleted my own photo's, I eventually deleted the whole boats in harbour file, and started again, success the second time.

Thanks for the explanation Doug. I can't remember seeing them before, but it now makes sense.
As for the rugged good looks, just well worn but not quite worn out.
Keeing safe but can't do much as arthritis is playing up and fingers not bending, the doctor is trying me on a new drug, as my old meds gave me stomach bleeding.

I don't think the facility for uploading and ordering 'photos is fully formed and could possibly be improved. I did suggest this to Stephen previously but I fully understand that these things take a lot of work to design and implement properly.
Also there is the ability to browse for pictures in Google Photos, DropBox, Twitter, InstaGram, Tumblr and Facebook but who actually uses that feature when the pix they really want are usually on their PC or camera/phone memory card ? Quite a redundant feature in my opinion.
Agreed about using cursor keys to click through pictures !

Agree with the 'dragon drop' feature and the reorder.
I'm sure we used to be able to do the latter before the site upgrade.
I'd also like to be able to use the arrow keys to hop through posted pics, like most other sites.
When there are many (record stands at 104 in one post I think!) it gets tiring on the wrist having to use the mouse to move on to the next pic.🤔

'browse my computer' function is already there. That's what clicking Select Files does.
On my W10 PC it opens Windows Explorer.

Well I just posted my new build blog and it all uploaded OK and all of the 'photos appear in the order that I uploaded them so for me at least it seems to be working fine.
It would be nice though to have a 'browse my computer' feature when selecting 'photos to upload or the ability to re-order them before posting....just a suggestion 😁

I've just noticed that about 30% of the posts shown in the notification part of the site (on my mobile) have my avatar.
Can't think of why anyone needs to use my ugly face as their avatar.

From my experiences:-
1 Rogue photos usually appear in the final submitted post, not in the post Edit window.
Recent exception: Rooky's HMS Amethyst post, a new phenomenon.
It seems to me to occur when two or more members all submit posts within a very small time frame. I can liken it to 'cross modulation interference' within multiple radio systems!🤔
Something I know well from naval ship comms systems.
This first cropped up several months ago when pics in one of JB's posts appeared in several posts in the same thread - but not in his own post! I spent some time putting the pics back where they belonged. Problem went away for several months but has recently cropped up again.
2. The phenomenon is not limited to Harbour posts.
3. It's not always the same photos.
Not like the case of the mysterious 'Fish Avatar' some time ago!

I've also noted the text deletion, as Rob describes, after selecting photos (or any other file type). Doesn't always happen but I have learned to copy the text just in case!

Possibly related ?......
I just replaced some pictures of my Fire Boat And Police Launch and uploaded a new boat in My Harbour. After writing the description of the new Pilots boat I selected two pictures for it and then tried to post it and then I found that I had to re-enter all the text again.
So picture uploads...no problems but a curious issue with the new boat entry 🤔
I'll see what happens when I start my new build blog later today.

Struggling on the mystery photo uploads. Few questions for everyone;

* At what point do you first see the unknown photos? Is it after you click submit or do they appear in the post window?

* Is it always when adding new boats to the harbour? Or other areas?

* Is it always the same photos?

Go easy on Stephen I know how hard he works behind the scenes, and I know you out rank him but he's actually the guy in charge!!
On your advice I'll hold off posting my new blog until I get the all clear, perhaps you'll make a 'General Announcement/Now Hear This' or whatever the correct nautical term is.
Meanwhile I'll write up a couple more blog 'episodes'.

He had to fix a Login snag first.
Seems that the site has gone hyperactive since the Lockdown started, a good thing in itself👍
but it rapidly filled up the database and jammed things up.
Stephen has been busily clearing out old data to get things moving again.

Similar problem with adding some updated pictures to my boat harbour caused all the existing photos to disappear 😮
So I'll need to upload them all again tomorrow.
Hopefully Stephen has fixed the glitches.🤞
