"...B is red in colour "
Not only that GSN, but the whole of the B flag is red.
Only the Fly of the A flag is blue.

Sorry everyone. There seems to be a problem with the video playing.
To be going on with I attach a very early picture of HMS Brave Borderer showing the same pennant.
I will see why the other clip is not playing. It is at my end.

Video of HMS Brave Borderer Portsmouth 1959 when she was the worlds fastest ship.
She is flying the same pennant.
Hope that helps Mike.

Thank you Bill, I'd forgotten that. It's a long time since I learnt the International Code of Signals and to be truthful was never on a ship that used them, certainly not Thames Barges!

Nerys is correct “when the boat is stationary.“
If it Is White and Blue it also means.
“I am undergoing a speed trial”

Usually the 'A' flag indicates that they are unable to move from their current position because they have a diver underwater and warn ships to keep clear to avoid endangering the diver with their propellors.

Hardly likely considering the speed she is going, so would suggest it has some local meaning to that base or flotilla.

Thanks for that , so why would an RAF Crash Tender be flying it on a sea trial, as I think this is what the Pathe news clip is about

I would suggest that it is 'A' in the International Code of Signals. That is dark blue and white so would appear to be black and white in a monochrome photo.

Can anybody identify the flag which is below the RAF ensign, it appears to be black and white?
