Fireboat monitors

I can confirm that the clamshell version of the monitors that I am modelling where infact grey, info provided by someone who has actually driven 93! (thanks to Pete D for the link!)
Apparently there were 3 versions of the monitors, the first were not used, very short stubby ones, and they were red, then the clamshell, then the commercially available ones that were red, so there we have it! 😀

hopefully I might have the definite answer off someone who was lucky enough to get a ride on a real vosper fireboat!
I hope he says they were not red, I have it in my mind to do grey now, here are the monitors, although not yet finished, but you get the idea, modelled on the early first version of 93, so not the later commercially available version that came after first refits, made form some cheap ally scraps, and some clever use of funnels! left one still needs filing at bottom to get that funny off centre shape, its almost done on the right one, then handles etc to finish off, took bloomin ages!, so I intend to use m5 nuts to hold them on, I dont intend to make more!

yeah I have the vosper colour chart, but it does not have enough detail, I have not painted the inside of the funnels red, more a dirty white, thinking they look more realistic that way, looking closely at some of the old pics, incidentally, some pics I have the funnels have some sort of covers on them, just cant decide on the monitors, when looking REAL close, I think... maybe the nozzles are unpainted ? wonder if they are made from brass or some sort of metal? and the rest could be grey? 😯

I think you could be right surely a grey would blend in better. There must somewhere be a colour chart one for the experts I think

Fireboat monitors

HI all, I'm well on with a full refurb and twin brushless conversion of a 1960's aerokits 4' Fireboat, I am modelling the first version, pre refits, without breeches connection and the early style of monitors (hopefully In a pic below) after carefully studying numerous pics etc, I am convinced that the monitors were not painted red, I also cant see the RAF painting them bright red. I was wondering what peoples thoughts are about this, have we all just followed the crowd, or anybody got actual facts about what colour they were? Seems a bit fussy, but I would like to get It right, study the pic, see what you think!
