"Brass or wood they will look good."
Wood or brass they'll be first class!😁
Go for it Ron👍
If the rudder control rods get in the way; instead of taking the verticals right down to the hull what you could do is;
fit a large strong brass or alu plate (ca 1/8") under the deck section,
make the brass verticals, from rod not tube, with a 3 or 4mm threaded spigot on the end.
Then you can put nyloc nuts with large washer (PS belay washers, fit a single washer-plate connecting the verticals) under the deck to secure it.
Alternatively; drill and thread the vertical for a 3 or 4mm bolt. Preferably 4mm.
Personally I would favour the nyloc nut, but I guess a bolt and permanent Loctite would do the job as well.
But I guess the drill and thread would be easier to do if you don't have at least a simple mini-lathe.
Result, either way: the towing strain is dissipated along the deck.
You just have to make sure that that deck section is well and truly secured!!😉
Just a couple of thunks😉

I had not thought of using brass to make one. The two uprights would be 3/8” tube and I could use a 1/4” brass rod to make the cross bar. The base brass flat stock.

Martin suggested running the uprights through the deck, and attaching to the hull. The rudder push rods run under the deck under that area, I will look at the best solution.

Count four frames from the aft going forward to locate the placement of the Bollard.

Hi Ron,
I am certain that a man with your skills could make this with ease.

You could even use wood dowels to make it from.

My only suggestion would be is to have the vertical legs protruding through the deck and glued to the hull.

Martin555.
If it looks right it probably is.

Good morning Ron,
If it was my tug I would be inclined to make it from brass and silver solder all the joints.
With threaded rod inside the vertical tubes and protruding through the base, this would give a good solid mount.
I hope you intend to attach it to a non removable section so it stays put while towing.
Cheers Colin.

COLIN.

Hi Pete,
"Evergreen MAY use an export company, but 'Javis' is not one, they are just a wholesale company."
I said they (Evergreen Scale Models) DO use an export company; to export from the US to wholesalers around the world, such as your Javis, and the three in Canada, amongst many others.
On their site you can find the wholesaler(s) in many countries.
If you then go to the wholesaler/distributor site you can find out who the retailers are in your country😊
https://hobby-exporter.com/
The parent company is based in Ohio.

The division that interests us modellers is
https://evergreenscalemodels.com/pages/about-us
In Germany I get my supplies from Krick or Conrad😊
There are also about 8 craft shops dotted around the Munich area who stock it.
Whatever; Happy modelling folks👍

"correct in theory" I think I'm correct in saying that, as you mention, Evergreen MAY use an export company, but 'Javis' is not one, they are just a wholesale company.

Nerys,
In absolutely no way was I casting any aspersions on Dave Watt.
I was simply pointing out that his site does not use HTTPS security and as such any info, including confidential personal data, sent to him through his site would be open to be read by any 15 year old with the nouse to do a bit of net trawling.
I'm pleased to hear that he does accept PayPal. Otherwise I'd have no way to buy from him.
Personal cheques are unknown here for years.
The last cheque I saw was a company 'Verrechnungsheck' sent to me by an insurance company.
That irritated me cos it cost me €10 to pay it into my account. too much manual 'labour' involved!!😠
They could have simply transferred the money to my account.
ASAP I changed insurers!

Quite correct in theory Doug, I have an account with Javis in Stockport UK, they used to supply me with evergreen products when I had my shop, and kindly continued my account when I retired, Javis supply most retail shops in the NorthWest with all Evergreen products.😊

Exactly ED👍 That's what I meant.
Evergreen uses an export company and doesn't seem to sell direct to the outlet shops.

I have personally known Mastman for some years, He is a highly respected member of the Association of Model Thames Barge Owners. Builds and successfully races model barges. He produces a wide range of Barge (and other) FG hulls and every possible piece one could want to build a model barge, as well as a wide range of other accessories. I doubt if the model barge world would be as big and active as it is without him. The fact that he only accepts cheques and cash is irrelevant, I personally wish that a lot of other businesses did the same as being a dinosaur I regret this government inspired desire to do away with real money. I must admit, I had forgotten that he accepts Paypal as I always pay by cheque unless I am collecting goods from him, then I pay cash.

In South Africa all banks are withdrawing cheques at the end of the year. Only way round it is a Cashiers Cheque/Draft. To much forgery.
I pay suppliers by PayPal except a few suppliers in the UK.

Not wishing to state the obvious but, Being a modeler can you not very easily make one? Its only a square of styrene card and three pieces of pipe. Evergreen have all the shapes, sizes, sections you could ever need plus the pleasure of doing it yourself and cheaper.

Cheques? What are they Nerys?
I haven't seen a Eurocheque for good 20 years!
I'm sure he loses a lot of online trade like that.
Mine for example🤔
If he used PayPal he'd get my business, and others I'm sure, even if he applied the 3% surcharge to cover PayPal's cut.

Dave Watts Mastman does a number of different bollards, might be one to suit your requirements. I think he would make one to your specification if asked.

Hi modellers. Where can I get a Double Cross Bollard for my tugboat that will tow various objects?

The base is roughly 5cm x 6cm. Height of the two main pipes is 6 cm and are 1 cm dia.

I am building 3/4"=1'

If you can open the word doc the drawings are there.
