International Model Boat Show

Hi Dave
Further to your enquiry. We are busy with a website for the IMBS24 and it will be available soon.
At this stage we are still awaiting rates for an Aircraft from Miami to Cape Town.
We really want to bring everyone to SA, but commercial flights are on a tight schedule and in a rush to load and go. That's why we opted for a Chartered flight, which will take better care of the loading of the models.
I'm sure you will appreciate the logistics behind an event such as this, and it's the first one for South Africa. It has never been done, and those who participate will be making history in the world of RC Boating.
Please bare with us as we finalise everything, and if you wish to assist in spreading the word in the US, it would be greatly appreciated.

Fair winds and calm seas!

Dug out the picture but unfortunately none of Sonstraal dam. I know there were some but I got a mixed bag of photos when my father past away. The only thing I did find was a picture of a very fast and noisy boat that I know ran at Sonstraal, I was there.

Had a major operation in December and that caused weakening of my core muscles, this has caused Sciatica which is worsened but my spine. This is what happens when you go to work with a parachute 🤣

Not in my school days the only schools that gave us a go were Paul Roos and Paarl Boys. The only real rivals were Rondebosch and Bishops.🤣

Your Logo

Good day. I notice your logo is the same as used by "Greatermans Hobbies". Coincidence?

Hi Rudy

Yes I remember the Ster movie house, I am that old that I went to the Lantern on Voortrekker Road, it became a church of some kind (Lighthouse)

My mother went to Parow High and my father and I both went to SACS

Sonstraal Dam

Hi
My name is Ed Witney and I grew up on Louw Street in Durbanville. My father was Dick Witney.

I will see if I have any pictures of Sonstraal in the ‘60s and ‘70s.

I still have all the motors that we ran in that era.

What days do you run on as I am planning to be in Cape Town in September.

Yes I too was going to RC this little boat so I could sail it side by side with a 3ft one I bought to restore also off eBay. I'm sure I will get round to fitting all the tiny gear to RC it as long as I can get the spares needed and split the deck from the hull without damage to both. I have all the RC gear to do it I just lack the confidence to split it at the moment. I can see were they put the glue to hold the 2 bits so that should make it easier, a job for the the Dremel I think!

HI Paul, I have two of these one with all fitting, and one with just the basics, I like Dave am trying to make it into an R/C model but even though there are a lot of small servo's and motors available today its a daunting task and it spends more time on the shelf than the bench. But one day I will get it to work I am sure. Once I complete the part one then I will know how to restore the good one. Graham

HI Paul
I have a couple of these in reasonable state, bought with a view to convert to r/c as 93 and 94.
If you could upload pics of you model I'm sure we will be able to supply details of the missing bits, and help with the hull damage.
Removing the deck is not an easy option as they were joined (plastic cement) on construction, and as this is some years ago the plastic is quite brittle and prone to cracking.
Do you wish to sail the model? if so the main problem is the rear rudders as access is non existent. I don't have a tested method but do believe I will have to cut a hole in the rear well to gain access. Done carefully a flat panel could then be made to restore the well.
Two small motors should provide ample power and small esc's, 2.4Ghz receiver with AA Nimh's would work.

HI I have just bought a 16.5" Victory Industries RAF Vosper Tender but It's missing a few parts. So you can guess what I'm going to ask for I'm sure!
It's missing a part of the decking which I believe also has a crane on It plus the fire monitors & a life ring.
I would also like to know how to split the deck from the hull (the hull Is damaged below a propshaft fitting) before I go and kill It!!
It could also be for sale If the price Is right!!
