Wow very nice! For those who are wondering how to get boats under a 6 inch size, try the Spektrum AR 6400 modules. These are full proportional Spektrum radio receivers on the 2.4 ghz band. They have 2 linear serves mounted already (but are not hard to remove if trying to save weight). They also have a brushed speed controller capable of 2 amps. They will run of single cell lipos, Ie from old rc helicopters work well. The small pager motors from things like mobile phones work great to power small boats. Also from rc helicopters, the tail rotor blades from a micro helI can be cut down into a not perfect but workable propeller. You just have to run the motor shaft through something like a grease trap, these little motors rust fast. For the hulls something from your local toy shop is an easy way to get a pre-made plastic hull that is easy to modify, perhaps from a set that comes with other scale looking but small things. Attached is an Image from my most recent micro build, unfortunately I have not yet gone past this stage due to time constraints but you can see the tiny receiver, serves and battery.

Micro and submicro rc boats

HI Jezza,

I've been dabbling on micro boats for a couple of years. I've put a couple up on the site (Dabchick cruiser, solar boats, Magic Vee etc.) all less than 15" - some less than 6" (see pic.) !

Agree on swamping when playing with the 'grown ups' byt haven't yet lost a boat - my Model Slipway Clyde Puffer and AmalfI survive with the biggest - so keep at it. To date I've done solar, cruiser, working scale, footies and semi-scale sail and it's great.

Happy to swap ideas and/or experiences - especially on how to get below 6". I'm about to upload a tabletop waterway video that I did some years ago and am still working on - a tabletop HO scale canal system, yes with real water.

I agree Micro has real potential as another branch of our hobby.

Thanks Gregg, yes I have found that these small boats are very sensitive to any sort of wave, and have quickly learnt to get the boat out of the water as soon as any wakes appear. No damage though 😊

Micro and submicro rc boats

We have a couple of guys who, er "dabble" with micro boats in our club, but they can only use them on calm/still water, any sign of a wave or even prop wash off another r/c boat and they flip over too easily, never to be seen again at the bottom of the pool.
good for indoors/swimming pools though, but be careful on open water, they launch themselves up in to the air too quickly and the wind can flip the boat over once air gets under the hull.
Best wishes.
