E poxy coating boat hull.

Just a note: I have had good luck using the disposable foam brushes with epoxy and denatured alcohol, thereby eliminating having to pick out stray brush hairs. Foam holds up really good.

Hi jimdogge,
Yes you can colour resin you can buy pigments in many different colours. I epoxied the hull of my Nordkap. I used a very light woven glass cloth with good drape properties. I also used peel tape over the cloth, this material kinda floats on the surface of the resin and you can peel it off once the resin has fully cured, it leaves a matt surface and adds a bit of thickness to the resin layer. If you use a pigment then it's just sand and polish to get back to a glossy finish, if you use clear resin then it's just a matter of sanding it smooth ready for painting. I used a fairly thin resin with a slow cure hardener to give me good pot life and plenty of time to work. Best of luck with the project.

I have been doing the same thing....experimenting with airbrushing the final coat with a colored epoxy mix. Too thin, and it tends to run on a vertical surface.....soooo, viscosity and air pressure is the balance to seek. I have to work in my garage, so I suspended operations till the temperature stabilizes above 20C.....cooler than that and it just does not want to adhere and set properly. My test pieces came out beautiful....good durable finish! As it warms I would like to try 5 min. Epoxy.

Good luck!
